In August 1998, Jim Karnes started up a small website devoted to the Ford Ranger Splash, called Splash-it. Splash-It contained little more than small gallery and some articles about upcoming products for the Ranger. By the end of August, Splash-It had been updated with new information and had been renamed to Splash Motorsports. At this point, the site had started to get a modest amount of hits, and was still primarily devoted to the Splash.
In November of '98 the name of the site was changed to Ranger Power Sports to reflect the expanding audience of the site, and with a new look and some updates, RPS was born.
RPS was started out as a desire to create a excellent resource for Ford Ranger owners. Not only was info needed on Rangers but also on automotives in general. Slowly but surely we began gathering up as many pictures and information that we possibly could. We were quite inexperienced at designing web pages but we knew our trucks and that was the important part. Much brainstorming went on in thinking of new ideas and ways to improve RPS to make it more user friendly and the most informative Ford Ranger site there was. It was also blatantly obvious that there was hardly aftermarket support for the Ranger we're still working on that.
From here RPS is hoping to continue its growth and maintain its position as a number one source for Ford Ranger information and resources on the Internet. Soon to be released are the Project Truck section which has been gone for so long. With this, we hope to make some breakthroughs into new aftermarket parts for the Ford Ranger, and help those who are working on their own, private project trucks.
Who knows where our ideas will take us!
