It means that you grow pointy ears and start talking like spock off of star trek. lol seriously though, I think all 3.0 rangers have the 'U' engine code on the vin. And as far as the 3.0 goes, its a really good motor as far as durability, its surprisingly torquey(at least the ones that I've driven were) and there are hardly any performance parts out there for it. All in all they are solid little truck motors.

Difference is injectors and corrosion protection on fuel system.
That is it. On the vehicle they add a "E85" detector, special programming for the ECU and the leaf badge.

Sorry to interrupt, I was just wondering about this from your sig.

straight 2" pipe from exhaust manifold back w/ a 5" amplifier tip. no muffler, or cat. more hp gain than with any other system.
How did you get more HP with that?

im not really a mechanic per se, but ive been told ive gained at least 15 hp by a few smart people. i would guess there is almost no backpressure. all i know is the proof is in the pudding. after i did that, i topped out at over 100 mph. where before i was under 90.

Dude, Putting full performance exhaust including headers on my 79 malibu's built 350 doesn't give a 15 horsepower gain. No matter what exhaust you put on your ranger you're not gonna see a 15 horsepower increase...you don't even have headers. Most guys on here are lucky to see a 15 horsepower increase with all their mods combined. Also, you want a little backpressure...just not too much.

I read that if the 8th digit is a U thats how you tell if you have a vulcun engine. I dont really care anyway because a vulcun isnt anything great.

Really it doesn't mean much, just the name they gave it.
