DangerRanger Sep 14 2003, 12:24am an extra camshaft CalPBrian Sep 14 2003, 03:47am 2 more valves per cylinder, alot better flowing head, higher compression, different block etc. Why do you ask though? All4duratec Sep 14 2003, 11:50am Oh yeah, it's faster, too. :E Aaron B Sep 14 2003, 12:28pm Originally posted by CalPBrian 2 more valves per cylinder, alot better flowing head, higher compression, different block etc. different bore, stroke, bore spacing, the block is aluminum not cast iron, the d-tec is about 200# lighter, the list goes on and on. An easier question would be, "what does the duratec 2.3 have in common with my lima" The answer would be, total displacement, both inline 4 cylinder, 4 stroke engines, both use over head cam designs and that's about it. cajun Sep 14 2003, 04:32pm Stock horsepower 135 hp vs. 119 hp for the older 2.3/2.5 engines. Its hard to say if th enewer engine responds better to addition of Cat-Back exhaust and cold air intake, but thats my impression...which is NOT based on much but seat-of-the-pants. I hear the 2003's have a different cam profile and a bit more stock horsepower ...maybe thats why ? One advantage I see though is IF you wanted an automatic rather than a stick, then with a 4 cyl you wouldn't be penalized (performance-wize) as much as you are with the older engines. In a standard cab maybe the difference isn't as noticable, but in the Supercab the 4 cyl is a dog. My father-in-law has a '97 Supercab 4 cyl/5 spd and with the A/C going its a dog on the hills...I want to slip in a CAI, Cat-Back exhaust and a chip on his truck real bad .... but hwe just putts around town these days but maybe someday. -Cajun Shackmaster Sep 14 2003, 09:24pm Actually, the Duratec in 2001 is 138HP stock, and the 02-03 year ones are 143HP stock due to different cams. Also the Duratec is a Mazda (designed) engine, as opposed to the Lima which is a Ford Engine. Also, the Duratec has better low-end torque, and when I put my foot in it, I can smoke the tires, which to me is impressive for a 4-cylinder pickup with an extended cab. I love my 2.3L Duratec. Good power with good gas mileage. Timeslips, anyone? :read: CalPBrian Sep 15 2003, 12:26am Shack it was 135. Touring, Im sorry Ive never made it to a track but I do my fun offroad. :E Touring23 Sep 15 2003, 12:30am That's cool, Cal. Guess I'm not going to get a DOHC to the track this year, either....the season is almost over up here :( Import Al Sep 15 2003, 01:58am Did you guys hear that if Mazda is still making trucks in '06, they won't be Ranger clones. They will have original frames, chassis, and maybe even different engines than the Duratec. It will be like the old B2000s; truely Mazda. That is if the killer Bs survive that long... Mine can spin the tires very easily, in 1st or 2nd. Mines just a 2.5 with a few mods. steve o 97 Sep 15 2003, 09:32pm Originally posted by CalPBrian 2 more valves per cylinder, alot better flowing head, higher compression, different block etc. Why do you ask though? just wondering if any of duratec's performance parts would go with mine, looking for ways to get alittle more out of it.my goal is v8, but im alittle short. i can get a 5.0 and aod(800 from a guy i know), but lack the funds for rear and the other goodies steve o 97 Sep 15 2003, 09:49pm Originally posted by CalPBrian 2 more valves per cylinder, alot better flowing head, higher compression, different block etc. Why do you ask though? just wondering if any of duratec's performance parts would go with mine, looking for ways to get alittle more out of it.my goal is v8, but im alittle short. i can get a 5.0 and aod(800 from a guy i know), but lack the funds for rear and the other goodies |
