As far as the master cylinder goes you should have zero problems there. Are you using a Ranger or an Exporer diff?

They won't, the backing plate bolt patterns are way off. So far off that I don't even think re-drilling is an option.

Those of us with Explorer rear disks just swapped the whole rear end. It's a straight bolt in.
What years Exploder rear ends can I use on an 03 Ranger? This would get me disc brakes and save me from having to buy a separate Trac-loc . . .
1990-present, since the explorer sport and sport-trac are still on the ranger platform. Up until 94, the exploders have drums, but I've heard that all the brake components from a disc brake equipped exploder or stang (live axle only) will bolt onto the earlier rears. But keep in mind, the mustang part is just hearsay, no confirmation as of yet that I know of.

Actually only up till '01 if you're looking at a regular Explorer, the new platform is larger and uses an IRS. I know the Sport Trac is still built on the old platform but I don't know off hand if it uses the disk brake equipped 8.8 that the previous gen Explorers used or if it uses the Ranger 8.8 with drum brakes.
'95-'01 would be the years to look for.

It does. I'm fairly certain the Sport does, too.

are the rear ends that come in the explorers any wider than the rangers. I dont want my rear tires to stick out farther than the front ones if possible. You dont have to shorten the axle do ya?
I am thinking about doing the swap as well because i plan on putting a bigger motor in the truck and I dont wana redo my whole rear suspension and then change the axle and have to do it all again. I would like to get an axle with traction loc and disk brakes...what is the ideal year?
Info, per JW, which has yet to be found false, says that the exploder rears are 1.5" wider than the 93+ rangers. And the rangers front trac width is 1.5" wider than the rear. So, we can conclude that the widths should be the same.
