View Full Version : Question about lowering the front of a '94
cleanshavenXLT Nov 04 2003, 12:33am I have a friend who wants to install a 2" drop on the front of his 1994 Ranger Sport. Would it be possible to take my old DJM 2" drop coils off my 2000 Ranger and place them on his Ranger. I have never lowered a 93-97 ranger with beams, only 98 up. Would that be possible or should he just save $300 for the lowered i-beams? Thanks for any help.
doctorj928 Nov 04 2003, 01:46am i am gonna have to say that you will not be able to take the springs from a control are style suspention and sawp them into a i beam style suspension its to different style of spring and keep in mind i noticed you said you were going to buy i beams and you only want a 2 inch drop but all drop i beams are a 3 inch
jeff
yah, gen3 springs taper at the bottom where they mount to the beam, the newer rangers are all one size, and like doctorj928 said the beams will give him 3 inches, if he only wants 2 inches have him get lowering coils and some castor/camber adjusters to get aligned right
J-RANGER Nov 04 2003, 12:11pm YEP.
cleanshavenXLT Nov 04 2003, 04:26pm Thanks for the replies. I did notice that the i beams were a 3" drop not a 2" when i was looking at some last night. Could he just get the beams and use the stock coils or what. Thanks again.
J-RANGER Nov 04 2003, 08:37pm Yeah. That will work. I did it for a while but it just wasn't low enough for me.
cleanshavenXLT Nov 05 2003, 02:27am Alright guys, thanks again for all your help. I'll let him know he needs the I-beams.
haha, yup, that first 3 inches just never seems to satisfy anyone, tell him while hes ordering the beams to go ahead and order the drop coils too, cuz beleive us, hes gonna wanna go lower soon so he might as well do it all in one shot... its so much simpler that way
2.3ranger517 Nov 10 2003, 06:05pm i have been thinking of a 2 inch coil drop in the front too, but i think i'd wanna go lower once im there. 2 inches doesnt seem like much, but i don't wanna go through the hell of installing new drop i-beams. Anyone know of any step by step instructions anywhere for beams, with pictures?
Thanks

SLACKER4.0 Nov 11 2003, 11:16am the best way to approach i-beam install is to just do it. my son and i just finished our first install on his 94. halloween evening we did the rear and sat. morning the front. i guess the hardest part was removing the spindles, get a small hand sledge and knock the crap out of it a couple of time and it will fall out. its all very straight forward take off and bolt on stuff.
everyone it right when they say 3/4 isn't quite enough and want to go lower.
oh yea don't forget PB BLASTER!!!!!!

jaygecko Nov 18 2003, 10:38am ya, i had never installed drop ibeams until i just said the hell with it and said i was gonna do it one weekend.
if i would have been able to get the alignment fixed i would have had it done in a day, but i made it driveable enough to go to the alignment shop, but it had bad camber and caster until then.
it will go quicker if you have someone else helping you, overall the process is pretty straight foward,
you should get new balljoints pressed in tho while you are doing the drop since you have it apart (this is recommended but it is possible to do w/o changing them, but you would most likely need to change them a short while after anyway)
you should also replace the radius arm bushings too since you will ahve them apart as well and they are inexpensive
93ranger2.3 Nov 19 2003, 02:50am You dont have to take the radius arm bushings out to do the beams...I left mine in. I also didnt change the ball joints and I have had no problem and my camber the same. I guess it depends on the truck.
