Ok, I have decided the only way to stand out in a crowd, is to have independent rear suspension... My question is, what would be the best set-up to use? Out of any vehicle... I have a 97 ranger, and well, fabrication is not a big problem for me, neither is money... I was thinking about going to a junk yard, and getting everything I need out of a sport compact car... Your opinions and thoughts are appreciated... So, what am I looking at getting into here?

The IRS from a early-mid 90s thunderbird is pretty close to fitting exactly. The T-bird supercoupe has an 8.8 l/s rear. If you wanted to, you could probably drill some holes and bolt the whole subframe up. What I'd do is get the suframe and complete suspension, and then box and grind and smooth all the pieces to look good. Maybe even build new A arms for it, and then weld it in to a modified rear clip. It should be pretty close to the same width.

Yeah I've got some pretty crazy-ass ideas that I plan to do in the future...either to my own truck or to a full out custom after opening a shop. Such as a bagged Jeep Wrangler laying body on a custom body-dropless chassis with full independent suspension rolling on some 22s with custom offroad style fender flares that hug the tires when layed out....Oh and while this brainstorming continues, might as well stuff a Hemi into it and make the top a power retractable hardtop. Two sparco seats behind which are tanks and compressors, wheel tubs, and the spare 22 flush mounted into the shaved rear.:E

I can't give away all of my ideas, but just imagine tonight about a hybusa(sp) engine in a ranger that is kept light weight! It will work too!

Just imagine a high horsepower street bike engine in a ranger... So, if anyone has the bright idea to do this in the future and gets it to the public before me, I have all the credit.... It will work too, just will take a lot of fabrication..

I think a motorcycle engine in a 2500lb+ truck would be kind of puny even if it was turboed to 250hp or so....motorcycle engines, especially inline 4 race engines, just make absolutely no torque, and dont make any power until 10,000+ RPM. It would make one hell of a dune buggy engine though.

Well, it is still yet more power than a stock ranger engine, and yes, I expected it to be HEAVILY modified, pushing somewhere around 250 plus hp, it is just thayt no one has ever done it before... ANd I went to the local junk yard today, but there was no luck...

DAMNIT!!!! I seriously had never seen any wrangler even lower than stock height before. But being one of 2 slammed wranglers would still be pretty cool. Haha.

Oh well. I don't even have enough money to build my truck...let alone a gen2 I want to build with the 3.0 I take out of my 01. So that wrangler thing would have been years off. What about grafting the back/top of an explorer sport or something of the sort onto a ranger? Make a kind of modern BII.

I have seen a few body layin Ex Sports and they look badass. I would love to hack up my two door but like most of us I can't afford the one project I have going let alone another.

Whenever I was about to turn 16 I was looking at a 79 bronco full size, and I thought it would look sweet with a newer (97 up) lightning front end on it with flareside tails and 18 inch lightning wheels. Would've been great, but it needed to much work at the time to get it running and I needed something right then.

I have a picture of a bagged wrangler on my cardomain site, it was at cruisefest about two years ago. I haven't seen a body dropped one before, that one is pretty nice despite the rims.
