Yes this looks terrible and is probably weak. If he cut out some metal and welded it in the open areas, would it really improve the strength of it? Is that why everyone thinks its so bad besides the way it looks.

I think the most offensive thing is not that he didn't reinforce the notch, but all that extra work into the rearend!!??
Why do all that and not reinforce the frame wall?
Nice rearend swap! Paint, powdercoating, Chrome, but weak frame? Comeon' :bawl:

Welding plate into the inside of the notch (where it would rest on the axle) may make it look nicer, but it wouldnt improve strength hardly at all. A proper C notch uses a thick C notch plate like the suicidedoors bolt in C notch or something of the sort that either bolts or welds to the side of the frame. By making the frame shorter you have to make it a lot thicker to expect any sort of strength. But for that much clearance he should have just stepnotched it. At one point, it looks like there is no sidewall left at all to the frame. I bet without the bed holding the frame UP...definately NOT how it should be..., the frame could be bent down by hand.

would you need to do something like this on a 5/7 drop, no bags, with a 96?

ahh its a trailer queen and never gets driven except around shows, so who cares this is last months news any way, but its not supporting hardly any weight back there everything that is stressfull is before the notch and the bed supports the fuel cell thats in it so at most it has 250 puonds after the notch. I have seen less hold more

It's possible he could have welded a piece of half inch flat bar to the underside of the top. If it was a solid 1/2" with the 1/8" frame welded to it, it's probably strong enough to hold the bed and fuel cell... Wouldnt want to even put a cooler back there, but some people don'e use their trucks.

Yea that is the only time I have ever seen it, but on SSM there was a kid defending that truck saying it was his friends and he drives it everywhere. I don't know if he does or not but, ....

I don't care how much weight it supports behind the "hackt up hole in the frame" That is straight up unsafe.

His excuse probably something like this:

"Ya ... but it lays"

Any sane persons reply...

"In 2 pieces after going over a bump"

the cnotch is used to do the same thing but welded or bolted on?

Huh.. is that a question.. If thats a question.. Then yes a c-notch is usually either bolted or welded in. However this guy just cut up his existing frame and gave the frame no reinforcement at all. Basically if he put any weight in the rear half of his truck that frame risks bending..

Yeah i was asking if the cnotch was used to accomplish the same thing but reinforce the frame.
