S'up,

I have a 2000 ranger (2.5 L). Yesterday, the ABS warning lamp came on, and the spedometer stopped working below ~35 mph. I also noticed that while below ~25 mph the engine seems to have a large load applied. When in neutral, if I rev the engine, RPM will drop supper fast (almost instantly).

MY theory: One of the inductive ABS sensors gave out. Speedometer may get data from the same sensor. And the bad sensor data is causing the brake system to put extra load on the engine. No Idea why the speedometer only works above ~35.

If anyone knows what's goin on with my truck, I would appreciate some advice.

thx,
steve

On RABS vehicles the VSS(Vehicle Speed Sensor) on the rear pumpkin sends the signal for the speedo and RABS to the GEM. There are no sensors at the wheels.

Check you connection back there. The VSS is replaceable.

yeah, this happened to mine, and my plug was just a little loose.

Pull the rear ABS sensor on the diff. If the magnet is covered in metal filings you may be in for an expensive repair...
Signal strength of ABS sensors increases with rotational speed...

I'm experiencing the same problems (ABS Light, eratic shifting, OD light flashing, check engine light on) for the past week, but now it's coupled with SEVERE engine missing and sputtering at low RPMs. Is this related?
