View Full Version : Cheap Ass Lift Lol
Jwad00 Dec 03 2003, 11:26pm hey guys im a bargain hunter and i hate to spend any more money than i absolutely have to and on my gf's 2002 Ranger 4x4 we got a 3"performance accessories body lift but we want a suspension lift now and the kit alone is $1,600 and about $500 to install. then we are gettin new wheels and tires 33x12.5x15 and we just dont want to spend over $3,000 to lift the damn thing. ok....so here i am at Chux Trux the other day and they're talkin about how i can lower my truck with some lowerin coils up to 2-3 inches in front without needing control arms. so what im thinkin is this, can i just get some lifting coils for the front, blocks in the rear and shocks and be ok? just for another inch or two? any help on this would be great!
DownSouthTAS Dec 04 2003, 03:51am Umm...who's truck do you want the lift for? You mentioned two different ones.
And if money is that big of a deal, why not install it yourself and save $500????
Jwad00 Dec 04 2003, 07:30pm its for my gfs truck....and one, i dunno how to install it myself, nor do i have the correct tools to. and also its still $1,600 for the kit.
DownSouthTAS Dec 04 2003, 09:29pm Your girlfriend's 4x4 Ranger does not have coil springs up front. The only thing you can do without buying a real suspension lift ($1600 is a little much for the Superlift...not sure where you're looking) is crank the torsion bars up an inch or so.
To do this, you must jack the front of the truck off the ground. Follow the torsion bars back to their housings. You will see two bolts, one on each side, like this:

Get a 13mm socket, put it on a long handle break bar or torque wrench:

Tighten each side equally.
That's good for 1-2", depending on how much you tighten the bolts. Your ride will stiffen noticeably. Remove the sway bars to help out.
Jwad00 Dec 04 2003, 09:51pm oh...well that blows my plan :( thanks for the t-bar pics though! might try that
RangerXLT85 Dec 25 2007, 08:32am A T- bar crack is pretty good but its only goin to give you an inch or too
Check this out... There is where I got my lift from.. Its from the Superlift warehouse.. All parts are new put the kit aint complete.. There are 2 boxes for the front ( 9631 and 9637 )
9631- Are the brackets and hardware
9637- Are the steering knuckles
Here is a link to the steering knuckles (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Superlift-3-4-Front-Knuckle-Kit-Box-2000-2005-Ranger_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118QQcat egoryZ33585QQihZ008QQitemZ180192929154QQrdZ1QQsspa genameZWD1V)<--clicky
That is a good deal.. when I bought mine I spent 400.00 just for the knuckles!!
Anyway.. what I'm tryin to say is just buy the parts at seperate times.. If you get the knuckles now, keep lookin at that seller and he will list the 9631 (hardware, shocks ect)..
As for the back, I did not buy from Superlift, I just did a 2" shackle and a 1" add-a-leaf.
All and all I spent 900.00 for my lift and that includes the rental time at the garage.
The install was pretty easy for the most part once I got into it, just the rusty bolts were a pain.
Any questions just PM me
HERE IS A PARTS PRICE BREAKDOWN from Superlift (totals in RED are when I spent

why not get spindles and blocks or spindles and those lift springs for the rear?.
a pair of lift spindles are like... what 500 bucks and those lift springs for... 4 inch ones if you leave in the stock blocks will cost... 400 or so? i odnt know the spring prices well but someone will chime in with them
RangerXLT85 Dec 25 2007, 10:51am Spindles dont work on 4x4
exactly spindle lifts are only for 2 wheel drives.... but good try! lol. there are no other cheap options.
CUTiger Dec 25 2007, 07:10pm You should have no problems clearing the 33x12.5s with just the 3" BL, just crank the T-bars and be done with it. The best part is its a free 2"s!
ToreadorRanger Dec 25 2007, 10:15pm a tbar crank is not technically a lift. it just stiffens the tbars up to give higher ride height, but under compression of the suspension you will still have the same amount of clearance as stock aka you will most likely rub.

No, cranking the torsions changes the amount of pre-load they have. Rubbing depends on your size of tires, you will have more up-travel metal to metal, obviously, your suspension is "drooped" out from the t-bar crank. If you have huge tires, you'll rub, if not, you'll be fine.
foxyford Dec 26 2007, 12:17am Blah i knwo i post these pictures alot guys but to end your worries dude i cleared 33's wit no lift and jsut the T-bars cranked.
