I'm thinking about getting the Whipple whenever it comes out, and I'm going to need new tires soon. They will be larger, probably 255/75R15. With the extra power of the Whipple could it actually be benificial to have larger tires and not do a gear change? My thinking was the engine could push them fine and it would lenghten the gears which seem pretty short to me now. Plus 4th would become a better gear for cruising around in town and 5th wouldn't be wrapped so tight when I hauling down the highway. My truck does not tow or go off-road. Current gears 3.73's. 225/75R15

If you're more concerned about traction, a 3.55 gear would be nice if you could score one. I damn sure wouldn't get 4.10 gears, or you'l spin 'till NEXT Christmas! Technically, you want to have an overall ratio (taking into account you tire OD, gears) of around 3.88 if I'm not mistaken. That is statistically the best 1/4 mile overall ratio.

The test Whipple truck had the 3.73 ratio, and they said 1st gear was useless under full throttle. The new 4.0's come with the 3.55 L/S rear, so I think that would be a good one to go with.

i drove the test truck last year and it lite them up all the way thru first and would bark second and for an auto thats damn good now he told me that they were putting 4.10 ans l/s in it so i think it would be nice.

Read the owners manual, it will tell you how to find them. Also do a search on the drivetrain and General Discussion.

Or, just crawl up under the truck and look on the rear-end tag. That will tell you exactly what your ratio is.

Thanks for the help guys, i'll crawl up under it. Bought mine used and for some reason I have no owners manual.

as for the larger tires, i'd go wider if anything, i'm running 17 X 8's with 3.45's and it'll launch at 4 grand with my 5 speed after lighting them up for a little bit. It still slips a little bit, but that slip will help my clutch last a little longer
