i dont want to sound like a moron or anything but i dont know much about the import scene and my buddies that know about turbos and all say that you can put a blow off valve on a supercharger, i was just wondering if this is really possible and is it also possible to do to the whipple charger? i think it would be cool just to have something different ya know, like when an import pulls up to ya and then ya rev it and he hears the whooooo psh! sound!

You can put a blow off valve on a centrifical sc but not a roots style wipple is more of a root style as in it mounts directly to the intake and there is no piping between the blower and the intake.

Note that the Whipple uses a by-pass valve, similar to a pop-off valve but re-routes the boost side of the charger back to the intake side. This type valve is open when there is vacuum on the charger intake side, like when the throttle is closed or the engine is under light load. There will be little or no boost under this condition. This is done to prevent excessive boost from occuring under varying load conditions and possibly blowing the head gaskets. A pop-off valve is not used with positive displacement superchargers, this would mean that air flow measured by the MAF is not going into the engine and would result in the ECU not being able to maintain the correct A/F ratio. Using a by-pass valve alows the engine to operate in a non-boost mode for normal driving but gives boost when you want it. Also of note in the Whipple design for the 3.0 is the retaining of the basic upper intake manifold design, runners with a plenum from the stock engine.

You could probably get away withing running a BOV on an S/c setup like Doug has done on a 3.0l and a thunderbird S/C. It has a blowthrough design like a centrifugal S/C.
