I have a wrecked Bronco 2 that I'm fixing for off roading.

It had a 2.9L when it came from the factory. I would like to put a 3.0L in it.

1. Do I need to change the computer. It is an eek 4 system.
2. I would like to put in a real (read heavy duty) automatic transmission in it. This will cause me to need to lift the body. No problem. What Ford transmission is recommended. A C6?

I'm not the smartest person by far on this board, but i'm pretty sure that a C6 won't bolt up to a 3.0. Do you already have the 3.0, or do you still have the 2.9? Personally I think it would be better to put in a boneyard 302 if your only going to use it for off roading. But thats my opinion.

Don't go with a 3.0 if you are going to do a sway do at least the 4.0 but better to do a 302 that would be one mean offroad machine. Good luck

If your gonna upgrade to a bigger V6 I would definitely go with the 4.0. Or you could also swap in a 5.0 V8. Either way, your gonna need a different computer and possibly wiring and tranny depending on what route you take.

I don't have any engine. So will have to buy one at the local junk yard.

The 3.0L are cheap and easy to find. The 4.0L are getting easier thanks to the Explorer world, but the price is higher.

Not interested in a High HP offroad rig. Just enough to put along nicely. Actually thought about a nice Ford 4 cyl. The new ones are very good.

I also considered the 3.8, but the conversion troubles are considerable. The engine appears to be quite a bit bigger. Not sure all the details. But I think a 4.0 would be the trick if I didn't mind paying the piper at the local yards.

In summary, the 3.0 was an idea. Maybe not the best. The people here lean toward the 4.0 and V8 options. Thinking about it. Thanks!
