Guys,

Heres a look at my first ever p.s....

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/1/web/385000-385999/385286_67_full.jpg

I shaved the door handle and added these flames. Couldn't quite figure out how to lower it anymore w/o changin the background or something.

Got any hints or tips on lowering them or making them look more realistic?

Thanks... and oh yah... enjoy.
This is my friend Jasons friend Robert. He's got 22" spinners and its lowered (don't know how far) its getting a custom paintjob and a supercharger on the 5.4l.... :)

Later.

looks like you tried to change the upper color of the truck.. A word of advice.. when working in photoshop its always best to use large images. If you look at most of the pics that I chop they all start out huge.. 1280+. This way its easier to chop them and make them look a little more realistic.

The only problem I see with this pic is the grainy color. The color change is good but it has a lot of pixelation. Also when you did the top half the best thing is to use the body line to do the seperation. It will never be a perfect line but its the best way to make it look more realistic..

Pretty good chop though.. Keep working you'll get better in time.. There are people out there that I know are way better than what I can do and they started after I did...

Thanks for the compliments man... I've seen your chops... freekin sweet. How long u been workin with PS?

Here's a few quick ?'s...

Could I blow up the original and rework it ya think... or do i need to take pics in a bigger format?

And the grain... is that b/c of the smaller size or what? And I tried using the body line for sep but couldn't decide what to do with it once I hit the end of the body line near the headlights.

I see lots of guys w/ renderings how do you do that?

Finally... do you know of any books that are good resources for what we use this for (cars and stuff) or just PS in general?

Thanks ...

Its always better to take the pic in the larger size.. What I usually take pics in is 1280X960

The grainy is because you edited a lower resolution pic.. When you do that its hard to seperate the pixels and not make them grainy.. Larger resolutions its easier to seperate the pixels..

renderings.. they are just the pic that you use and then give it a different background.. pretty much what you do is cut out your image and then give it a different background..

Or do you mean renderings as in mostly scratch built stuff?

If that is what you mean, then your getting WAY ahead of youself. But most rederings use a lot of the pen tool, air brush (paint and eraser style), extensive use of filters, etc, etc. This is for full size, high res stuff. If you wanting just like a avatar or something, then those are a bit easier...just draw something, and add filters till yo get something you want. The pic below is a rendering I did for a signature block on a few Photoshop boards. It's made up of about 5 layers, a pattern fill, and a large amount of filters. The layers are the black background, two red layers at differnt opacities to give depth, a text layer, and then the pattern layer. The pattern in a simple 2(?) pixel black line followed by 2px of nothing. When applied to a layer and the opacity and fill turned down, it gives it a nice grany look, which sometimes you want. As far as filters used, I can't remember them all, but gradient glow, bevel boss ( both are eye candy 4000 filters), pinch, swirl, blur, ripple, who knows what else.

Just keep trying and you'll evetually get the hang of it. Soon yo'ull be able to invision a car in yor mind, then be able to shop it accordingly and be happy with the results.
