Anyone know of a replacement engine that will fit in my ranger? I have a 1984 2.8L 4WD. I would prefer it to be a newer engine if possible.

any from that family is a direct bolt in( some wiring and computer differences) as in the 2.8L, 2.9L, 4.0L. If your gonna replace it wiht a 2.8L look for one out fo a 86 aerostar, they ahve shorty headers, multivbelt system, and some other goodies.

mainly im looking for when my 2.8 goes out. I would like to put a fuel injected motor in. Also another question would be what about matching the 4WD transmition with the engine. Would i just look into getting a transmition with the engine?

that reminds me blue to check the rear end in the aerostar my 2.8L is sitting in about teh tracklock

The 2.8 transmission you've got will work with the 2.9 or 4.0 (although how long it will last is questionable behind the 4.0, unless you have a C5).

what is the 4.0 out of? and i have a 84 2.8L v6 2WD, does it matter what engine goes in, or will they pretty much just fit it no matter what? im thinking of putting in a 351 in too, is it easier to go with the 4.0L?

i knew this would happen..................... about a month ago i finally scrapped the whole drivetrain cuz after 3 years i couldn't find anyone to come take it..

I didnt think you still had it, just thought I'd ask. I figured since you were pretty close it was worth a shot. I got an 88 with a dying 2.0 and I need another engine soon. Crap just noticed you posted that at the beginning of 2004, I had 05 in my head when I posted that. :redface:
