Before my v8 swap, I had a a4ld trans with the 2.9 engine in my 87 ranger. It had a cable from fuel pedal to the trans, with a spring loaded ball clip on the end. Since my truck originally had the a4ld trans, which is really a aod trans, will that cable work? Has anyone used it? Just wondering before purchasing the cable from Lokar. thanks

No,, that cable will not work at all,, It worked off the same principal but to me would take to much to make it work on the AOD,,

I take it your going with a CARB setup thus the need for the lokar cable?

No carb for me. EFI is the way to go. Has anyone seen or used this cable I'm talking about? It controlled the kick-down function on the a4ld same as the aod. it is a self-adjusting cable that attaches to the trans the same way it does the aod. it runs from the fuel pedal, to the trans. Has anyone used this, if not, what are you using?

Nope. It doesn't, the A4LD is a complete other trans, and it has a completely differant kickdown operation. Get the lokar cable and be done with it. If you run an AOD mis-adjusted, you will fry it in under 10 miles, literaly.

why dont you just find the factory cable from an aod??

Yea. it does seem easier to use the one from an AOD. I'm sure any junk yard is full of Fords with AOD's you could get one from.

Or that also..... Just make sure you adjust it right.

Ah yes, the recurring AOD TV Cable dilemma...
When I bought my AOD, it came with a stock TV cable, which looked difficult to adjust (it's not, really). But I'm using a '95 engine/intake/throttle body so no provision for a kickdown (TV) cable on the throttle body. In my case I opted for the Lokar part (trans dipstick too!), which looks cool, you can make it fit almost anywhere, and is easily adjustable - triple threat! I got mine new on ebay for around $50, but I know they cost more at the retail level. It's just one more of those decisions you make - "checkbook vs. cool factor", and cool won out this time (as usual).

Like everyone else who responded, I agree that you can't make the A4LD cable work.

so ace, you connected the lokar cable from the fuel pedal, to the trans? that is exactly what this stock cable does. correct me if i'm wrong, but the throttle valve is controlled by throttle angle where it be on the throttle body or the fuel pedal. the transmission doesn't know this, so what difference does it matter as long as the cable, when properly adjusted, reacts with throttle angle. so getting back to my original question, "Has anyone used or tried to use the original kickdown cable on the A4ld trans to control the tv on the aod????

it wont work, as the kickdown doesnt work off of pedal angle, it works off throttle angle. if your dead set on using that cable, then go ahead, drive around for about 20 miles then let us know how things turn out.

to use a lokar cable u need the lokar throttle cable, kickdown cable and bracket then you need a spring kit from sonnax (i have one i'll sell cheap)then you need to set the throttle pressure using a transmission pressure guage

it is possible just expensive

the a4ld setup will not work as aod's use that as a throttle cable controlling pressure in the trans and a4ld's only use it for passing gear they have a modulator
