Yup, hopefully the 4.0 SOHC in the '05 Mustang will prompt the aftermarket to produce some better 4.0 parts! :)

A V-8 swap into a Sport Trac shouldn't be too difficult, as long as you get an '01-up V-8 Explorer donor. Reflash the PCM to trick PATS, and you'll be in there.

No, they only come with the 4.0L SOHC V-6.
People with performance modifications in mind do the big 3... Intake, Chip & Exhaust. Really wakes the V-6 up!

The V-8 Swap has been looked at over and over and the consenus is it can't be done.

There is no such thing as "can't be done" when it comes to customizing. If somebody wants it bad enough, it'll get done.

What is the reasoning why it can't be done? What problems are they running into?

Don't you just love it when people say it can't be done

I was looking at a Sport Trac the other day wondering if they came with a V8. It really seems like it should.

Why cnatit be done? Doesn't it have the same engine bay as the explorer? They have V8's. Somone correct me if I am wrong?

It can be done and a member over on MySportTrac.com is in the process of doing it. I believe the preferred motor for the fewest headaches is the 302. I think the biggest problem with doing this change is that most ST's are daily drivers and they haven't been around long enough for donor parts/vehicles to be readily available.

The v8 has been discussed many times and considering how minimal the power difference is between the 6 and 8 the price difference would probably make it undesireable. The new concept Trac with the v8 was rated at 240hp and 270/280tq with an estimated retail of $37k. Though this is for the concept, that price makes it unwanted by many of the current owners on the myst.com board. If you consider the performance numbers compared to the 4.0 they are really weak, especially for the cost. I think the big fear with the v8 trac is direct competition with the f150 in the same family.

It will be interesting to see what ford pulls off next year.

the new model (not sure when it's coming out officially) is going to offer the 4.6L V8 and resemble the 04-up explorers.

I can't correct you. The S/T is a 4x4 Ranger crew cab, really, like it or not. The 302 should fit fine. Now, if the 4.6L was being discussed, yeah, it's a PITA until we see mass kits for that particular swap.

As for the Ranger deathwatch, I wonder if this remodeled S/T with or without a v8 may spell the death of the Ranger? With the trend towards midsize, the profit Ford makes from anything with "Exploder" in the name, and the fact that everyone else who has dropped reg cab compacts has helped their bottom line (Nissan and Dodge feel okay).....doesn't look good.

They are the new 4.6 out of the new mustang. Detuned a little for truck use though. Almost 300 hp

They're 07's. There were no '06 Sport Trac's. 05 was the last year of the 1st gen.

I have a 07' with the 4.6 V8 and 6 speed auto. It makes a big difference. I think it's 292hp and 300 ft lb of torque. I tried the 4.0 V6 and it didn't seem to have enogh power to really get the sportrac moving. That V8 is thirsty tho.
