I have acsess to a 300 ton press and have a ficture to set a 2wd I-beam on it to bend my own I-beams for lift. When doing it they would be heated via torch and held in place with custome made fictures to keep them from twisting as they get heated and bent a little at a time. What problems do you see with this and is it worth the time and effert to even try this? Ive thout about doing this for a long time know as a possible cheap 2wd lift and possible selling them w/cores to local guys who would want them. Am I asking for trouble here or is this the same way other companys do theres? Ive seen pics of bent I-beams and they do look like stock peices that are just bent but.......:nixweiss: :drunk: Dam Ive been a post whore latly:Ehttp://www.autofab.com/images/89_2wd.jpg

not recommended on that forged steel, if you want to cut and turn them then get some from and early 2wd ranger, i know 83 for a fact. They have a tube steel arm like on the 4wd trucks. Youd then put it in a jig and cut the arms and rotate them and weld in a triangle hunk of steel. By just bending the arms it will kick the tires in closer to the frame making your front end narrower. If you do heat the forged beams dont sell them, by heating a casting like that and bendind it it will weaken the structural integrity of the metal.

If you get down there you'll see stamped on them "Do not Bend, Heat or Weld". I figure they have thermal treatment, so if you do any of the above you'll ruin them.

i have bent beam lift... it takes a hell of a beating... i would strongly suggest that you NOT do it yourself, and just buy it.. way safer.

I agree with the above opinion. I would suggest you letting the 'professionals' do the work instead of taking the risk of doing it yourself.

heating the i beams is a pretty dangerous idea

Yup.....playing with saftey issues there. There'e plenty of other ways to get lift...playing with fire will get you burnt :ugone2far
