Hey guys,

Its on and complete, sort of. The only thing I'm waiting on now is the computer reflash. Everything from the spark plugs to the air box is on and ready to go. Once I get the computer back it will be a simple plug and definatly play. I can't wait. All in all I got everything that it takes to install one on a early model. To say the least its quite a bit but I'm certain the effort will be well worth the results. I will be writing up some info and posting it here as well as sending it in to Whipple to let everyone know just what it takes. I ran a 17.39 at best in the 1/4 before, I can't wait to see what she'll do now.

So did the Whipple Tech end up coming down there to help, or no?

Nope, he had some medical issues. Actually I'm glad, we would have never gotten it going on a saturday without access to alot of the extra parts I needed. He will be coming down to check out what I did and how it looks and to set me up with a few high output custom calibrations. All in all I think it was just because this was my first kit. I beleive I could do it a might quicker with the next, especially if I could use some different injectors. I'm compiling all of my pictures and data but for any of the 3.0 owners new or old that get one of these kits I do have one MAJOR thing to tell you.

Install your new spark plugs BEFORE the supercharger!

Hhahaha, it gets a little tight on the driver's side with it on. I removed the Emissions Purge valve and it helped but still very tight.

LOL I would say it does. I had to be a contortionist before my S/C. I fear the job now. I'd rather swap my clutch, than change plugs.

just a few questions four you . 1 did you have to change the lower intake ? 2 is it legal , meaning what did you do with the egr valve ? i dont care about being legal but other people might . thanks in advance for your efforts .

Sounds great doug. Thanks for being the pioneer. By the time I save up the cash for a kit I'll probably have a simple list of what to buy to make it work...but that couldnt happen without somebody just goin for it like you. I think its cool that whipple sent their first kit to a guy with a truck thats out of the year range its made for. It shows that they really are in it for the ranger guys.

Thanks for all the hard work Doug!
Do you see any installation problems for those of us that own 2003 and newer trucks?

As for the install Yes, I did swap to the later 02up style lower intake manifold and I completly removed the EGR valve and all sensors having to do with it.

For the 03', absolutly none. It should be a direct bolt on for your years.

i wish i had the time and the engine knowledge that you guys do not to mention $3000 but maybe one day when they come out with a easy install kit like it would be on the 02 and up. i will just keep dreaming for now.

Hey Doug I have a quick question. At the track where you ran your 17.39 do you know what altitude you were at? Thanks, Curtis

That was WITHOUT the Supercharger. I can already see I need to remove that. The computer hasn't gotten back from Whipple yet because I had to have a custom program since my truck is a 99'. They already have the programs developed for the 02ups.

as stupid as this question might sound but will the removel of the EGR system effect your gas mileage as far as not being able to recirculate the gases?? or will the reprogramming take care of it
i have the same set up as you and want the charger but i don't want to give up my gas mileage

Doug904

If you worry about fuel milage then having a supercharger is not for you. No it won't make it drop like 10mpg but it will have an effect no matter if you have EGR or not.

He's below 1000ft/asl. A 17.39 isn't all that bad for a N/A 3.0L powered truck with no mods.

Are you saying Whipple is going to have a specific program for 99-01? That sounds great! Or if its a custom job just for you, any idea on what it'd cost for one of us to get that computer reflash? Do you plan to just weld shut the hole on the manifold? Great progress, can't wait to hear seat of the pants results.

Well since Whipple hasn't messed with the older stuff yet they are sending a guy down to program my computer specific and then they will have the programming codes to do the others from. The 99' has a 4R44e automatic transmission where as the 02 up has the 5r or 4r55e or some other type of auto trans. He'll be down here Wednesday to do the work so I'll let everyone know from there. THen I will also schedule some dyno time for this Saturday as well.

I've got a manual transmission so that shouldnt be a problem. Do you know if there are any other computer differences between 98-2000 and 2001. Seems like a 2001 is the same as a 98-00 ranger with 01-03 front swap. Nothing engine wise that I know of changed much at all until 02.

That is a very good time for a 3.0. Thanks for the response.

17.3 with no mods, thats pretty good. So my dual exhaust and k&n filter gave me a 17.13, thats 2 and a half tenths. Of course there's prolly alot more stuff thats different like track conditions.
