LED third brake lights? Right now, all I have on my ranger, is a bed light, with no third brake light. Im definatly going to be putting a tonneau cover on my truck, so having a bed light would be kind of pointless. So what Im thinking about doing it removing the bed light, and putting in a 12" wide flush mount LED third brake light. Truckin mag did a tech/install article on one of these a few months ago, and I thought it looked pretty cool.

Can you get one that would bolt in and cover the hole where your bed light is? Radio Shack has a good selection of 12 volt colored LED's, you might be able to find one that you could modify your current light so it would work. Just a red bulb in a clear housing thing.

that would work. just find someone that will make a PC board that will work in there and has LED's on it. so all you have to do is plug it in and tap into your brake line.

Nick, the ones at Radio Shack have a variety of bases, you wouldn't even need a pc board to mount it on. I bought a couple with 1/2 diameter bases to mount under the dash, and they have two leads that come out the base for wiring. They almost fit in a standard #57 light socket. Adam would probably want more than one of them in a brake light.

Well, the one that I saw in Truckin, was a single row of LED's, about 12" long. I had thought about going w/ just replacing the bed light w/ some sort of custom LED, but I think that going w/ the one I saw in Truckin would be cooler. Im getting my truck repainted later on anyway. Im planning on shaving all my handles and my tail gate handle, so it will need to be repainted. And when I have the handles done, it wouldnt be to much more to do the LED light anyway. I will see if I can find that issue of Truckin and see if the company that sells the light has a web page, adn Ill try to get a pic.
