I've been looking for a Mustang II suspension for a while. My friend told me to look at pinto's because they are the same. All the set-ups that I find, can only take a 500 lbs spring. I need a hell of a lot more than that. I have found a few Mustang II's that will take 750 lbs. That is a lot closer to what I need.
Need some clearification and any recomendations.
The reason that I need such a high spring rate, my engine weights 780 lbs, before trans, or anthing is attatched.

I think really the only difference is the steering rack and
how it bolts to the crossmember!
Not 100% sure, but real close to it!

good question!!!
What engine are you going to use?
Im pretty sure you can use the MII springs in the pinto front end,
or you can get a set of custom made springs!!!;)

I'm using a VM638. Vm is an italian company. The 638 is an inline 6 cylinder 3.8L diesel. The engine weights about 780 lbs. That is why I'm concerned about spring weight.

I'm pretty sure you can use more than 500# springs with a mustang II front suspension. I've seen spring rates of up to 1250# used in stock car applications.

What about a Pinto? Can you use the same weight?

So, in your guy's opinion, which one is better?

The 4 cyl on the MII was a 2.3. I had a '74 a long time ago. My brother had a '75 with a 302. They were both dogs.
I think everyone refers to MII because Mustang sounds cooler than Pinto. It's essentially the same car.

The MII had the better steering rack, if you can find one, get it!
Are you guys 100% sure the Pinto didnt come with a 302?
When I worked at the Ford dealership the parts guy was telling
me that when they first started dumpin' the 302 into the
car that they'd pop the windshield out. So they had to stiffen the
chassis first! Maybe he meant MII!

Yeah they made the Maverick for that;)
Just kiddin!
that 2.8 must really haul a$$!
I know a guy who was runnin 11s on a 351 in a pinto
and now he has really done the engine up and injected it but hasent had it to the track yet!
But I think we hi jacked the thread!

I'm looking at Heids mustang II kits or Alston racing Pinto kits. I don't think that I'm going to see if I can find a Mustang II. I'm one of those people, I just hate to part out a Ford, I don't have a problem with parting out corvette's but a Blue Oval, just cannot do it.
