well i found out today that my brake lights dont work.

ive concluded that it is the electrical, since the 2 stoplamps and the 3rd brake light dont work. plus i pulled the bulbs and tested them on an voltmeter and they were all good.

plus also while driving, i put the cruise control on and then applied the brakes, and when i lifted my foot, the cruise control resumed. so this pretty much seems to indicate that it is an electrical problem somewhere.

anyone know what i should go about doing in trying to fix this problem?

i was looking at the pedal, and i see an electrical connection box on the top. i am gonna try to disconnect the plug and see if i can do a test on it to see if the lights will work. but has anyone else had this type of problem or had experience with it? what should i go about doing to try to fix this? do i need to replace anything maybe?

thanks

That is what I was fixin to suggest, cept it is called the brake light switch the BOO is in the engine compartment (accoring to CHILTON"S) Here is what they say:

Removal

1. Remove the under dash panel

2. Locate the brake light switch assembly near the top of the brake pedal and disconnect the switch from the brake pedal by removing the retaining clip.

3. Use a small screwdriver to unlock the electrical connector from the breaklight switch.

Instalation

4. Install the switch to the electrical connector by snapping the clip into place.

5. Reconnect the assembly to the break pedal.

6. Install the under the dash panel.

7. Check break lights for proper instalation.

I got to looking and I can't decide where the BOO switch is (it controls brake lights to but I would say it is the one I gave you instructions to that is your problem, since your break lights still works) but Chilton's shows the BOO as being in the engine compartment (they show you how to test it and it is being done in the EC), I was not trying to contradict you Racenut I am just going by what this says...

I got a new BOO switch from a ford dealer and replaced the old one with it.

any idea how much they cost? the ford dealer is closed right now - lol.

we ended up fixing it, the plate that gets pushed back to complete the connection wasnt moving far enough on its own, we just bent both sides in for a temporary fix.

so they are working right now.

im just gonna end up ordering a new one shortly. i will just have to take mine off and get the part number, or go in there and hope they know what the BOO switch is (i say this becasue the lady that was in there last time i went ketp trying to sell me a universal joint when i was trying to buy a ubolt - lol)

Most likely the switch on the brake pedal, whatever it is called. That little switch puts on the brake lights and signals the cruise to shut off, if neither work, that is probably it.
