I know that the explorer rear is a wider rear I think like 1 1/2 on some models a 3" on the newer ones, but aside from that and the shock mounts do the leaf pads on the leafs look like the rangers or are they different ie...... do the ex pads give more spring contact that a ranger pad would? Thinking about swapping in an ex rear w/ or w/o discs doesnt matter I am just looking for a little wider trac. thanks ppl.

Actually 1.5" wider on the newer models, 3" on the older ones.

It's the same 2" wide spring pad as on the Ranger. About the only correction that needs to be made to it is for pinion angle. You'll need to measure after the swap to determine what degree shims you're going to need.

So I would be looking at a rear that is about 3" wider if I get a disc and then I would just need to set pinion angle?

Thanks

1.5" wider than your 91, 3" wider than 83-88.

ok so I've done this swap 93 exp. rear into an 83 ranger 2wd standard cab I had to use the exp wheels cuz the ranger wheel centers werent big enough to clear the centers and theres not enough backspacing on the exp. wheels (I need 1" more) which causes my tires to rub hard on the fender lip. im running 205/55/15 tires. what kind of wheels IE cheap or free can I use eventualy I will get r's but I'm BROKE.

I dunno what the BS on an explorer wheel is, but a newer mustang 15" would probably work.

No problem with the fitment of my stock wheels on the rear :nixweiss:

Maybe the old fox stangs, but they were 4 lug. I'm pretty sure all SN95+ stangs have aluminum rims.

No, actually the newer wheels probably have larger hub centers. You can try looking for a newer set of Ranger/Mazda/Explorer wheels.
