Hey Doug....it looks like I see a factory air box top in the picture.....what's that all about? I thought the Whipple came with a cone filter.

View Full Version : Does the Whipple use the stock airbox? iammike Apr 08 2004, 05:13am Hey Doug....it looks like I see a factory air box top in the picture.....what's that all about? I thought the Whipple came with a cone filter. Doug904 Apr 12 2004, 07:30am No sir, The whipple comes with a new air box top and mass air meter. Now I'm not certain if it comes with a K&N flat panel filter but thats what I use in mine. I tried a cone filter and it messed the a/f ratio all up, it went very lean at around 14.9/1. Later Doug904. BOSS 3.0 Apr 12 2004, 09:10pm Hmmm.... That's strange, you wouldn't think there would be a difference... Doug904 Apr 12 2004, 10:04pm From what I've gained from Chip tuners is that the cone filter mounted on the end of the MAF can mess up the transfer function because the air insent entering the meter in the way its calibrated for. Like when you order a MAF from Pro-M they ask if you have a cone filter or not. I've gotten some advice to on some things to try, like turning the maf upside down and sheilding one side of the filter. I'll do it when I get back on the dyno but with a a/f curve so lean I don't wanna try it without some way to monitor my a/f ratio. It also KILLED my numbers, dropped me by almost 30 rwhp. I got the dyno sheets somewhere I'll scan them in tomorrow. Later Doug904 92sport Apr 13 2004, 08:00am Would it be a good idea to put some distance between the MAF and the cone filter? Just so maybe the air straightens out and flows a little smoother past the MAF. Maybe make the adapter for the filter about a foot longer. |
