I was pricing out a new 2004 ranger, just to see, it won't let you get a 4cyl with a SuperCab, whose great idea was this?

View Full Version : Since when do you have to get regular cab in order to get a 4cyl? LByellowStang May 06 2004, 03:31pm I was pricing out a new 2004 ranger, just to see, it won't let you get a 4cyl with a SuperCab, whose great idea was this? Lone_Ranger01 May 06 2004, 03:34pm I think they stopped making extended cab 4bangers in 2002 or 2003. Eric Bassett May 06 2004, 04:26pm Take it from an extended cab 4 banger owner, you dont want one, mine has a matching camper too! pretty much no need for fifth gear I can use it unless I am going down hill. RangerFan May 06 2004, 07:07pm Hey Eric what year is yours? A 2001.5 and newer one wouldn't be so bad with the Duratec. There are a couple Duratec supercabs on this site. I believe Shackmaster is one of them and he likes his. Maybe you could find a used one. Good luck, Joey LByellowStang May 06 2004, 08:02pm My bro used to have an older Lima 2.3 SuperCab, he managed to get around Ok, I only drove it like once or twice, so I don't really remember it. 95blackranger May 08 2004, 02:57pm i wouldn't want one standard cab is dead enuf parawing742 May 08 2004, 04:27pm 2002 is the last year I've seen them available. Bummer, isn't it? Maybe you could get a custom built one from Ford directly? Shackmaster May 09 2004, 01:24pm Originally posted by RangerFan Hey Eric what year is yours? Good luck, Joey They stopped making 4-cyl supercabs after 2001 because most supercab sales were for the 3.0L V6 models. But I can tell you that the Duratec has NO problem moving around my truck with the extra weight of a Supercab and a fiberglass Tonneau cover. My truck is just as fast as my brother's '01 Ranger 3.0L auto w/ Regular cab. And supercabs are nice, because you can lean the seat back and take a nap or relax :E StickShifter May 10 2004, 01:01am Try a 4-banger in a 4wd...Talk about 'dead in the water'... Mightygreenrang May 11 2004, 02:21pm Yeah it was 2002, the same year you had to get the 4.0 in a supercab. Definitly though the ext 4bangers can get around ok, but what make me mad is that my 4.0 get only 2 less mpg than the 2.5. Big Bubba May 12 2004, 04:41am With the probability that gas will hit $2.50 a gallon a 4 banger X Cab would be real nice and a hell of a lot more desireable. My 01 2.3 gets 7-8 mpg more than my 4.0. Shackmaster May 12 2004, 04:37pm My Duratec sure doesn't get 26MPG like some people say they get. I'm driving it really easy on this tank to stretch it out a bit, but It's mainly city driving, so I think that's why I get less. Also, my intake is modded, and I know that's reduced my MPG. cajun May 14 2004, 09:34am Funny thing ...you make improvements to your truck so it performs better then your mileage drops 'cuz you have your foot in it all the time. My '01 XLT Supercab 4 cyl/5 spd gets about 25 mpg (if I don't drive 80 to to work) every day. It scoots plenty well with 4 cyl ...well, now that it has a cat-back exhaust anyway. Even before it was pretty good. I think the 2.3 Duratec and the 4.10 gears in the Supercab are what make it perform so much better than the old Supercabs ...My father-in-law has a'97 and its a dog and gets worse once the A/C comes on. I can only imagine how bad it would be with an automatic in those older trucks. I think Ford screwed up in dropping the 4 cyl from the Supercab line, 'cuz their change to the Duratec engine fixed the performance problem with the heavier body style. And frankly a 4X4 Supercab with a 4 cyl Duratec would be nice ...probably get better mileage than a 6 cyl and unless you wanted to off-road race you wouldn't be missing out on anything. Oh well ....they must make more $$$ with the 3.0 V6 platform 'cuz they sure seem to push them alot. -Cajun |
