View Full Version : Help fight Leukemia and Lymphoma, and "Light the Night"
Gunman Jun 28 2004, 07:52pm http://www.active.com/donate/ltnPalmB/teamjacks
(Note, I jsut recieved notice that the link will become active in late July)
In May 2002, my wife Jackie was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Since then, she has gone thru 6 months of ABVD chemotherapy and 20 radiation treatments, resulting in remission. Unfortunatly the remission only lasted 9 months, and the battle started over.
This time the big guns came out...two rounds of ESHAP chemotherapy, one round of CV, and then stem cell collection. On May 26, 2004 she started 4 days of high dose chemo, and on June 1st recieved her stem cell transplant.
Going thru this once is too much, so we're doing whatever we can to help keep anyone else from having to go thru it.
People often ask, "Is there anything I can do?", On Sept. 10, 2004 we will be participating in the Palm Beach "Light the Night" walk, for our third year. If you can, come join us, and/or make a donation, to help us, help everyone fight blood related cancers.
Thanks,
Dave and Jackie
Note, we'll pprobably be walking in the Nov. 5th walk in Jensen Beach too. If you want to join "Team Jacks" and walk at either location, please send me a PM.

Gunman Jun 29 2004, 06:22am There are walks all around the country, you can check: http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/ to find the one closest to you.
My mother passed away from a cancerous brain tumor going on two years ago. I'll gladly donate when the link is up.
This was unrelated to any kind of blood cancers, but any cancer-related cause is worth my money.

Phred168 Jun 29 2004, 03:52pm My aunt had Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma a few years ago. It was pretty much hell for her.
PickupMan92 Jun 30 2004, 11:09pm Any way you can get a Ranger Rally from say Tallahassee to Miami, like someinth ggoing like that? just heard of other people doing runs like that and to be able to drive the Ranger and help other people sounds like a plan in my book.
Phred168 Jul 01 2004, 03:54pm i'd be down for it.
99LowrdRngr Jul 01 2004, 03:57pm My Mom's aunt passed away March 5th from complications due to Leukemia. Talk about 2 brutal months of hell from January to March (when she wanted to go home). She was 80 when she passed away and was still working. The money that her family inherits has decided to donate it to a Leukemia fund of some kind. I don't remember which particular one it is, but I'll be damned if I have to watch anyone else go thru it without donating something to it... weither it be monetary or just my time. I'll do it. I've walked the breast cancer walk w/ my family (my grandmother is a breast cancer survivor). I always hated sad endings to good things... and my mom's Aunt hit not only our family hard, but the whole ACCO Corporation (Humongeous Air Conditioning company)where she worked for many years.
My heart goes out to all of those that are suffering from any cancerious problem. Just keep fighting, don't give up and you will blow through it all with your head up high!
shaved94 Jul 06 2004, 06:51pm i will definately donate some money for it my girlfriend is a survivor of hodgkins lymphoma so anything i can do to support cancer research im down for
pongorulz Jul 12 2004, 08:02am yea dude id be for a ranger rally. thatd be hot, they do that for kids on christmas down here, every year a bunch of bikers (like thousands) get together christmas morning and ride from some park down south to a place in like west palm or something and donate all these toys, and its a big event. thatd be hot to have a rally i know my friends would be in on it
PickupMan92 Jul 13 2004, 02:54am Well if someone can get me a contact I'd be up for doing seomthing like this later in the year maybe around Christmas time?
Let me know what you FL people think.
Gunman Jul 13 2004, 06:11am I've been a bit busy lately, but I wanted to let you know I appreciate everything.
If you want to organize a rally, I'd suggest this...pick a Light the Night event, and then form a Ranger team. Let the team members collect donations, and cruise to the event, you might even be able to get the event organizers to give you some 'show' space to park. Some events use a car to lead the walk, maybe a Ranger?
http://www.lightthenight.org pick your area(s), and find out when the closest event, or a centrally located event is, and then you should see some contact info for the local coordinator. If you need any help, just send me a PM, and I'll do what I can.
Rumor is the website will be up later this week (fingers crossed).
Thanks!!
Nitrous_ranger Jul 18 2004, 09:23pm I give you guys my support, my 22 year brother died from leukaemia two years ago after fighting against that terrible disease for 4 years. I donated cells for him but his problem had gone to the liquid that suspends the brain and not much could be done then.

marathon in san diego in june a band every mile. you have enough time to plan a trip. do it.
littlemike2 Mar 15 2006, 11:42pm I think that we all should do what we can to help each other out or help out a foundation or cause. Is there a way to get a ribbon to put on our trucks. Id be more than willing to pay for one to help fight for a cure. My wife has multiple scirosis and we have to deal with that everyday. All Ranger owners should try to support some cause. Ranger/Mazda Owners Unite For A Cure!

wrist bands, and magnetic ribbons for Leukemian and Lymphoma Awareness.
Thanks
Buffoni88 Oct 24 2006, 07:51am My father was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 26, and I was still unborn. I don't exactly know what type of leukemia it was, but unfortunately he didn't make it. It's hard to talk to my mom about it, because now she's remarried, and when I talk about it it brings up huge issues. It just sucks knowing that my dad had to get it. I'm not sure if it's been easier not remembering him, or if it would have been better to know him. Anyways...On a lighter note, I also have a friend that just pulled through and he's now cured, as far as we know. SO there definitely is hope. I'd love to get more involved in raising awareness, I just don't know if I have the courage to.

Start out small. Wear a "Relentless" wrist band, or go to a "Light the Night" walk. Every little bit helps.
