first off i tried the search didnt find what i was looking for. i just recieved a free 5.o for my truck, im going to go with carburated and was wondering if there is any way to keep my factory wiring with a carburated motor. ie lights, radio, ignition and stuff like that i dont have to worry about emissions because the town im going to register the truck in does not require emissions.

just leave the 2 engine harness plugs in there, and tale off of the engine harness for your ignition and guages for dash. that's what I did. it is clean and easy. the comp stays in, and the only thing you have to wire is the oil sender, the coolant guage, and the ignition and alt wires.

ok.. I am going from memory here, but this is it. the 2 engine harness plugs I had from the 4.0 were one big square black plug, and one same grey. your 2.3 may be different, but same ideas follow. 1. completely unwrap the 2.3 harness on the engine. totally I mean. no tape, no loom, nothing. plug in the engine harness to the truck again, like it was still running, but the engine is missing. 2. find the oil pressure sender wire. I think red and white. NOT the one for the level on the pan, it is the same colors. don't use it unless your 5.0 has it in the pan too. some do, you know. follow the sensor end all the way through the unwrapped harness to the plug, and put a piece of masking tape around the wore like a flag with OIL written on it.
Find the coolant guage sender. small, one wire, red and white probably. do the same with it.
the TFI ignition module plug is next. find the wiring diagrams on www.therangerstation.com and follow the ignition switched and start wire + and tape it also. next the start signal wire. use these 2 wires to power the duraspark system on the 2-wire plug. one red, one white. the + wire will power the duraspark and the + on the coil. The start signal will trip the starter solenoid and signal the duraspark to back off timing. rangerstation has diagrams for dura also.
find the alternator plugs next and save them in tact for the 5.0 alt.
The final step is to cut off and discard any wiring on the engine side of the harness plugs you have NOT marked for oil, temp, or alt. the rest you cut off about 6 inches out, and tape off. re-tape and loom the harness where you want them on the 5.0 and you have it done, and reliable. more coming...

heres more
Senders. I would use the 2.3 senders in the 5.0 block. they will fit fine, and you will be sure they are the right ones for your dash.
Tach. remove dash. on the bottom of the driver's side dash plug, cut off the bottom 2 wires that feed the 'sig' and '8cyl' and tape off the truck side of the wires. on the plug side, put in new wires and out to the ignition box. the sig wire will go on the coil ground, and the '8cyl' wire will have to be grounded most likely, but I have not run my dash yet. I will tell you soon how it works, before you go an blow it up.
any more questions will be fine with me!

Im running all autometer guages. I completely took out the engine harness. Now I gotta figure out how to splice the transmission sensors in to the factory harness and the ignition power stuff for my crane cams high6 and crane distributor. NATE
