Hey everyone, I used the search function, with no results! So I am asking here.
Can anyone go into detail on how to change the rearend gears? I am going from stock 3.45 (7.5 diff) to 4.10 with locker! Can someone give maybe somepics or websites?
I am going to do this myself (with help from step-bro).
Thanks guys.

Is it an actual locker, or an l/s?? ...I havent found any lockers that can be installed in a 7.5" with gears lower than 3.73 due to the special cross-pin required...

WOW didn't know there were so many different names for them!! This is the Trac lok that ford uses. Its TIGHT with the 4.10's already installed. New Ford clutches, good carrier bearings, and correctly shimmed with new friction discs. I am buying this from AllenD. The main thing is... I have never done anything like this, and would like to get alllll the info I can. Thanks guys....

Man I can tell you this much, if you have as many problems with the locker as we've had from AllenD on the Fordranger.com board then I'd stay FAR away from it!! You'll also need the pinion shaft to go along with the locker and ring gear. Don't just buy the trac-loc unit and ring gear. If you've never done this before then you need to take it to someone who has. This isn't a job for a first timer, there are shims that have to be installed under the pinion bearing and also there are 2 carrier shims that love to snap if they're in any kind of a bind. Oh and these aren't stock items for your local dealership and they come in about 100 different widths. I build these things everyday and please this sounds like a recipe for disaster,AllenD+first timer. I cannot stress enough the importance of getting the gears set up right and making sure you get all the parts and peices. Don't beleive any " Well you can use your old pinion and it will work" it won't!! You need to use the pinion that came with the ring gear. Good luck! Doug904.

As far as bad things said/talked about AllenD, I haven't heard of any... BUT as far as the install, I think I will take it somewhere then. I know a few guys at the local Performance (real muscle cars, not ricers' speed shop) Shop, and I'll see what they'll charge me. If they don't wanna deal with it... there's a RearEnd Gear shop on the other side of the bridge (next to hooters). It'll gimme a reason to stop in and chat with some chics!!!
Thanks guys.

Sounds good to me!!:drunk: I usually charge around $150-$200 for a gear installation depending on what size so maybe that can give you something to compare too. Later Doug904.

Thanks Doug904..you've been a big help! I am glad you pointed out how hard this is. I really don't want to mess my Ranger up, So I will take it somewhere for the installation!
Thanks alot.
