No one has successfully pulled off the swap, that's why.....other than that built-from-scratch Lightning Bolt.
We have seen several talk up a great game (nothing against that), get started, promise updates, then the crickets come out and they become silenced. Or some say they have swapped but cry about not being able to offer proof.
Anyway, when the Tritons had those head gasket issues a few years back, the prescribed fix involved taking that cab off the frame to fix the heads in the f150's.....I'd at least prepare NOT to have a firewall and then some IF you thought the swap was so important ina Ranger.

There is no one that has actually tried it and said it is impossible. There have been many that say that it can't be done but they have not tried it. I think the money, time and lacking of the knowledge that it will work has prevented many people from trying. Swapping in a 302 or a 351 promises more performance for less money so I think everyone ends up down that road or no road at all. I have been waiting for someone to pull this off but I have not seen it yet. Nothing is impossible.
If you do a search Petec had a thread going, on that thread was a pic that a moderator put up that shows the physical size difference between the 302 and I believe a 4.6. Kind of interesting.

Yeah I looked at that size diffrence before I have guted my fenderskirts already and replaced them with tubing and quick realease pins so I can reamove my fenders quickly and alow room for the 4.6 if I am able to pull this off I will Post a full walk through of what I have done but time will tell I still need to finish making my wiring harness I have been working on that for the last 2 mounths don't have the time till after christmas to really start hammering this thing

2004 Fun Ford Weekend at Norwalk , Ohio someone had a 2003 Cobra 4.6 with supercharger and 6speed in a late 90's Splash Ranger. The only thing I can remember is it had tags from IL. and it had a 1"-2" body lift and I think that was to clear the tunnel.(Maybe). But the suspension of the truck was lowered. His sign in the front of the truck said it was a complete Ford Motorsport engine and trans with wiring and computer. No hood scoop or anything and I would have walked past it but my son noticed it was a Cobrafied.

I am quite shure they could stuff one under the hood of a ranger i mean if they can shoehorn a 460 under the hood they can probably fit the 4.6.

Ford has a concept called the "Lightning Bolt." Lightning engine in a newer ranger, so I don't think that this is THAT difficult. You will have to do some extensive modifications to your firewall for clearance, and a body lift is recommended. But more power to ya man.

You all are wrong on the whole it can't be done thing. It has been done.
Track down gregr on the V8 board. He just got his 4.6 running in his truck. But he will be the only one who can help you with this. He is the only one I know of.
