View Full Version : hmmm...stroke a 2.3l Turbo engine to 2.7l? How much HP?
USMC-Zimmerman Nov 22 2001, 10:36pm Hmmm....i was reading about someone stroking the 2.3l n/a to a 2.7l....now what if you stroked the 2.3l T to 2.7l? How much HP would you get...also would it start off the line slow? I debating between the V8 swap and the Turbo swap...i am a traffic light racer, so i want a good take off...i want to stay away from nitrous...i consider that cheating.

i like that man.. i thought i was the only one with that way of thinking. you have my respect
Frdmerk Nov 22 2001, 10:57pm I'm not a fan of NOS either, but a 50 shot would give a nice jump of the line , at least until you reached full boost.
later
USMC-Zimmerman Nov 22 2001, 11:11pm Well how much HP would i get from stroking it? I think it was you Drizzt who said that the 2.7l would be slow off the line...
Oh...Drizzt i was afraid of being flamed for feeling that way about NOS...hehe good to know i am not alone.
DangerRanger Nov 22 2001, 11:36pm im thinking you would get about 50-75 additional horsies from stroking a 2.3t. nice idea by the way. not to down the four banger that i drive and love,....yeah, you can turbo it, but its still a 4 cyl. with a v8. there is a more versatile foundation to start with for the same amount of jack $$$$$$$$ that your payin fo the swap.
you know what im sayin? but its your truck, and a good clean, fast 2.3t truck is a rarity. so you do what you want
good luck to ya!
Increasing stroke usually gives more torque but with that comes HP of course.
Drizzt Nov 23 2001, 12:25am it won't nessarily COST HP but it may move the power band up into the higher rpms which you will never see
USMC-Zimmerman Nov 23 2001, 01:26am Drizzt..can you explain? Sorry i am am mechanical but i am not into all the jargon...
Ok...in other words would it be worth the cash? Do i gain by stroking to 2.7l? do i lose any HP when i stroke to 2.7l? Would i be fast off the line?
Thanks guys...though i dont really plan on going the 2.3l T way...i still want to keep it in mind...plus i though of stroking a 2.3l T.
I remember reading a post about when you stroke and add high proformance cams...that what you making in HP you lose in take off power...i am confussed...if you gain torque why would you lose take off power?
Thanks guys...
Drizzt Nov 23 2001, 01:33am not that you LOSE in take off power, just that your engine can't idle at a low rpm, you are just going to have to rev it up lots... and my n/a 2.3 has amazing off the line power... comes stock with 135 ft/lbs torque at 2000 rpm, gobs more than those little rice rockets
*edit* 1 thing i forgot to mention is that your rear-end gearing has almost everything to do with your ability to take off at the line. if you have a 3.08 or 3.45 gear ratio you really aren't going to get much accelleration, BUT if you have 3.73's or 4.10s you won't have much in the high end after or say 65 or 70 mph, but you will get some amazing burn-outs :P
USMC-Zimmerman Nov 23 2001, 02:02am i have 3.73 gears
What causes it to not idle right? Please explain...thank you for the help!
Drizzt Nov 23 2001, 03:05am well with a wilder cam you have more overlap, meaning your intake and exhaust valves are going to take longer to open and close and your engine isn't running fast enough to keep the flywheel and everything spinning, so you have to give it a little more gas and try and move the engine a little faster
USMC-Zimmerman Nov 23 2001, 09:57am ok...so stroking to 2.7l is a bad idea...what about to 2.5l?
it's hard to launch a turbo car properly, so it wouldn't be the best idea for stoplight races. go to www.mustangsvo.org or www.turboford.org and try to find posts about guys who have taken their turbo cars to the track for the first time...most of them are disappointed afterwards. not with their cars, just that it's hard to get a good jump off the line.

I have no idea what this has to do with this thread, but...
N2O is cheap. N2O is effective. N2O is easy to add.
Pansy? You can call me whatever you want, if I'm in front of you. And if I'm doing whatever it takes me to get there, especially if it's cheap and easy, I'd be stupid not to use it.

Why is N20 for pansies, and turbos not
Why is N20 for pansies, and superchargers not
Why is N20 for pansies, and intake mods not
Why is N20 for pansies, and headers not
Why is N20 for pansies, and high octane gas not (for turbos)
Should I go on. It you go faster with it then whats the diffenence between N20 and any other mod.
Sirnixalot Dec 05 2001, 10:51am I would also like to know why the giggles are for us pansies:rolleyes: i have a 60 shot on my ranger now and i only hear that from the people i beat. hmmm could you have gottne beaten by a nos'ed motor? Dont be sore just mod the hell outta yours and beat him back thats all.:E
