I'm having adifficult time searching the forums. When members write their posts they use acronyms and abbreviations that are common to automobile professionals and enthusiasts. For example, for Electronic Fuel Injection most of us would simply write EFI, or for the Throttle Position Sensor we would write TPS. However, when these acronyms are used as search criteria the search engine rejects them. Is this something that can be addressed? It would sure piss-off fewer members who's saged advice is "use the search function!" Thanks.

The reason the limit right now is 4 letters and not 3 letters is to keep the size of the search database down, which helps speed it up. Lots of 3 letter words in the english language that don't need to be indexed that are used multiple times in a post, but we can specify special cases.

If someone could come up with some more auto-related acronyms and abbreviations I will re-index the search. This will take at the minimum half a day up to a full day once it's started and will slow the forum down. I will start the list off

I get around that by throwing a wild card in with it, such as TPS* instead of just TPS. It works just as well.

The search has been re-indexed and includes the above terms. The search db needed to be re-indexed anyway after the upgrade, now seemed as good a time as any.
