My brakes are really getting on my nerves now, if you read my post before, you heard how I was having probs with my bolts holding the spindle on backing out. I got new bolts since then, and haven't had that problem, but I am having a terrible noise when I press on the break. It is pop sound at the end a my braking right before I come to a stop, and it also pops it I quickly tap the break. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might check on this?

Thanks guys,

YOu might want to check your ball joints. THats somethign else Ive diagnosed at work. What seems to happen is when the weight of the vehicle shifts, it causes movement in the ball joint, and it pops or something like that, and it causes a noise. I cant think of anything else right off hand that might cause that, but Im gettign ready to leave for work, so I will think about it, and talk to the other mechanic tahts there today, and see what he thinks.

it almost sounds like the slid pins might be getting cought up or it could be a claiper(sp) getting bad to i will look into more tonight

Yea, I suppose it could be the caliper slide pins, but I would have to say I kinda doubt it, but I could be wrong.

I have narrowed it down to a couple of things. I don't think it is the brakes anymore. I believe that my i-beams are sliding up on the control arms. I am also having a pop noise in my steering when ever I turn hard to the right or to the left, by hard I mean almost tot he stopping point. This thing is killing me. :cussing:

Well, by telling that, I wold have to lean towards the ball joints again. Their not hard to check. Just raise your truck up enough for grab the tire by the to & bottom edges, and then rock it back and forth. You can also check em by putting some kind of bar or something under the tire and lifting on the bar, causing the tire to lift some. If you get any movement out of the BJ, then its bad.

i have a 89 ranger that for some reason the driver side caliper clicks when i turn the wheel to the right, only happens when i go slow in forward or reverse only with the wheel turned right. the only causes i can think of is that the caliper is sticking or that the caliper retainer slides are getting bad and causing it to stick, so i just sprayed some penetrating spray on the slides and inside of the slide grooves and the noise goes away for a month or so, im not sure what style of caliper you have on your truck, but if it has the slides, lube them and see what happens!
