I am going Saturday to look at an 01 explorer 4X4. I was wanting to know before I go what year did they start the independent rear suspension and is it on the 4X4 models as well?

2002 is when they started putting the independant rears in the Explorers. Both 2 and 4 wheel drive.

Great! If I get this one, I willl be just under the wire when it still has truck parts. Its an '01 explorer, XLT, 4X4, 4.0 SOHC, 4.10 limited slip.
