View Full Version : Where to get cross drilled rotors juicedup20 Dec 03 2001, 11:55pm Where can I get some cross drilled rotors for my 96 2 wheel drive ranger? How much also? Calicrewzin Dec 04 2001, 12:21am Earlier this year I had a group buy going on to get some slotted/crossdrilled for 100.00 pair, and everyone wanted them, but no one wanted to actually come forward and pay! They are custom machined by a company that usually deals with sprintcars and stockcars only, but is doing them for Dealers Truck Accessories for some of their company trucks. If anyone still has interest, I'll check into them again. They were 120.00 a pair, but if we had 10 orders, it was 110.00, and with 20 it was 100.00. (That price is for a PAIR) I have a set on my truck, and JW also has a set on his. They give awesome stopping power when combined with a quality set of pads! juicedup20 Dec 04 2001, 12:26am Put it up on the Group Purchases board if you can still get them, if they really add nice stopping power I'm interested and will have $ after Christmas. Got any pics? chuckn2000 Dec 04 2001, 06:45am I'd be interested in this too...after Christmas. Got any pics? I have a 2000, will these fit? Chuck Highwayman Dec 04 2001, 12:20pm I might have interest in this also if they'd fit my 98 without changing calipers and requiring special pads. I, too, have to wait until after christmas, and I'll basically be out of the country for the whole month of January, so I couldn't do anything 'till Feb. I may be too late by then, but just letting you know I'm interested. I'd like to see pics too if you have some. EDIT: I can't remember where I saw them, but someone sells cross-drilled for $70 each. That's the best price I've found yet. JW™ Dec 04 2001, 12:56pm Originally posted by Ranger4dbz ...and JW also has a set on his.... And they kick ass! I just put a replacement set of pads on last weekend; typically with "stock" rotors I would have terrible runout/warpage from heat buildup. These things look new out of the box, and are dead-on straight. And believe me, I have been testing them every chance I get since I installed them almost a year ago. Well worth the dough. chuckn2000 Dec 04 2001, 01:14pm JW™, do you have them on your '94 or '00? I'm REALLY in need of replacing my rotors. I'm so f***ing fed up with warpped rotors. I have them turned...a week later...they are warpped. Let me know... Thanks, Chuck GREENPUS Dec 04 2001, 01:59pm That is strange. I have a 2000 and have never had a prob with the rotors on it. They're on my '94. Wayne can get them for ANY year, though. Sounds like you're a victim of the cheap foreign rotors; these are made thinner and are more likely to warp when overheated than thicker rotors. Wayne's supplier uses the thicker ones. Originally posted by GREENPUS That is strange. I have a 2000 and have never had a prob with the rotors on it. It all depends on your braking habits. I brake as hard as I accelerate; I suspect, based on the list of mods, Chuck drives the same way ;) Highwayman Dec 04 2001, 04:58pm Since I've never owned cross-drilled rotors before, what maintenance is required on them? Do they have to be turned? Do they last longer than stock rotors (useable lifetime)? JW™ Dec 04 2001, 05:03pm Drilled/slotted rotors dissipate heat better than solid rotors. There's no difference maintenance-wise; they would still need to be turned in the event of warpage or grinding from overly worn pads (although the chance of warpage is greatly reduced, since this is caused by excessive heat). lone20 Dec 04 2001, 06:01pm PM me and let me know when and where to send the cash,,,,,i'm ready for new ones Calicrewzin Dec 04 2001, 06:27pm OK, As soon as I get back in town, I'll verify that the discount buy is still valid. The machine shop had moved out of state, but they are back, and in the Inland Empire too! I'm in NoCal right now, and I'll be meeting with a couple peeps who might want to get in on this, so I'll keep ya guys posted, and if it's a go, I'll post on the group buys board. TX Ranger Dec 04 2001, 07:10pm I'd be interested in these, but like everyone else, only after Christmas when I have $$ to spend. lowryda Dec 04 2001, 08:26pm jc whitney also has crossdrilled and slotted rotors for about 60 a piece 2002 FX4 Ranger Dec 04 2001, 10:05pm JC Whitney has cross drilled rotors for Rangers up to 2000 for like 65 a piece. Not too bad I just dont know quality. Calicrewzin Dec 05 2001, 01:58am Those are the cheap foreign rotors that JW referred to earlier. Think about it, JC Whitney has to do a markup on their products to stay alive, so how much do you think they cost? The rotors that JW and I have are much thicker, with cooling fins that are twice the size.If you compare them side by side with the JC Whitney version (which I have) you'll see the difference. All goes back to ya get what ya pay for......and I personally didn't want to pay for crap! Also, what I will do if I can still get them at those prices is post a group buy with a cutoff date for Jan 15th, that way it won't affect holiday expenses. chuckn2000 Dec 07 2001, 09:21am I am DEFINITELY in on this one and would buy them right this second if I knew where to send the cash. I am sick of this sh!t and really need to do something ASAP. (These are direct replacments correct?) JW™, I am extremely heavy footed both in acceleration and braking... ;) Bad habit, I don't know but I maintain my truck meticulously that's why it bothers me so much to have problems like this. Thanks for all the input guys. PM me if I can get a set of these babys right now. Thanks- Chuck Calicrewzin Dec 10 2001, 01:54pm OK guys and gals, the group buy is ON! I have to work out the RPS cut with Jim, but as soon as it is worked out, it's a go! I spoke with the guys that machine them, and it'll be no problem, I can get ALL years of Ranger, plus just about 98% of any car or truck can be gotten, so if anyone is looking for some for a different make, lemme know! ADDED 12-17-01.. Info is now posted on the group buys board for anyone interested! Calicrewzin Dec 17 2001, 11:21am Bump... Rangerbrown Nov 09 2004, 11:39am any word on this? does anyone have any for sale? RngrRcr Nov 09 2004, 12:41pm Wow this post is old. Rangerbrown Nov 09 2004, 12:49pm I figured i would do a search for the question i had so no one get on my case, not the first time this has happened, i think the last one was about a soft top ranger. But yea i the pass side pads are half as thick as the drivers so only thing i can think is that when the pass side caliper locked up it must have warped the rotor and has slowly eaten away at the pad. So i plan to replace the rotors, the drivers caliper, pads with bendix titanium pads and repack the bearings or replace them just for the hell of it. Any one recommend going to ss lines or will the rubber ones be fine for a few more years 94 by the way. |
