5.0SuperCharged Apr 11 2005, 03:08pm First day on forum.
Back in 96' I bought a new 96' Ranger SC step side with 2.3 & 5spd Manual. Drove it for a few months while getting the 5.0 together. Used a 93 Cobra Very low mile short block & installed Ported Twisted Wedge Aluminum Heads, E303 Roller Cam, Ported Cobra Intake, 93 Cobra Harness & Computer.
Combo Made 260hp @ rear wheels. Not happy with power so added a PowerDyne SuperCharger that boosted rwhp to 394. On a 100deg F day it ran 12.79 @ 112 using stock 4cyl tires and wheels.
Used BBK 5.0 Headers to start but changed all but one pipe also had to rotate collector to get EGO sensor to clear. Installed a stainless exhaust from my 1500 Mile lightning which was a bolt in only having to move rear hanger 1".
Has given 26k trouble free miles since. (truck now has 28k miles)
And yes the A/C blows ice cold. Have not figured out how to post pics yet or would
blaze_tylr Apr 11 2005, 03:20pm Wow sound good . Did you use the exp wire harness ? How much did your total build up cost ?
Kevin Apr 11 2005, 03:21pm Welcome aboard! Sounds like a hell of a truck you've got there.
Thanks for reading the post at the top of the board. I guess it's directed more towards new guys that DON'T know what's involved. ;)
If you follow the link below you'll quickly see how to post pics. Can't wait to see 'em.

shep 44 Apr 12 2005, 07:28pm Welcome to the board. There are a few of us old N/A people here(even a few old antique carb, including me) but you got the present thinking on engines. Want horsepower, more boost. Not one thing wrong with that.

five o ranger Apr 12 2005, 09:12pm nice truck,sweet motor
5.0SuperCharged Apr 12 2005, 09:43pm First pics are prior to supercharger. Ran 14.0 without a posi & very very limited traction.
With good traction with supercharger would probably run low 12's.
Road trip a couple weeks ago got over 26mpg driving 75+ in mountain driving. That included a few bursts to 120+. Will turn 6 grand in 5th gear (3:73's).
Because of ported heads am only getting a bit over 5lbs of boost (10.2 to 1 comp) with 9lb pulley. have to take out about 2 deg per lb of boost at high rpm.
I may soon change over to a better exhaust system as still has the 95 Lightning exhaust which is pretty restrictive. Gained 23hp and 25 lb ft on lighting so should see a pretty big gain at current hp level.
Engine was installed with 2040 orig miles on clock.
The 93 Cobra computer and harness/sensors were used.
Custom 4 Core Brass Copper Rad
stock 5.0 Fan & Clutch was used but did have to modify for clearance
Moved A/C Condensor to front of core support. Fabricated the A/C Lines
Used a Modified 5.0 H Pipe W/ the 4 cats.
Made own motormounts
Used stock ranger 4 cyl trans crossmember just moved it back and down/drilled new holes.
Shortened stock front half of driveshaft (forward of carrier brg)
Added Posi to stock 3.73 rear
Lowered with a Bell Tech Kit in rear and shortened front springs with Bell tech shocks
Added MSD 6ATB Ignition with controls in glove box
Used T-5 5spd
Made own shifter
Added Motorsport in tank fuel pump in stock ranger brkt
Fabed all fuel lines (major pain)
Also had to adapt the 93 Cobra to ranger harness
Also had to use a remote oil filter
Emissions Legal with all smog intact including pump/egr etc (very tight fit)
modified all but 1 pipe on BBK Headers. Also had to rotate collectors for EGO sensors to clear. SLight notch in frame pass side.
First did not plan on S/C so milled the Twisted Wedge heads for higher comp Blower was afterthought.
Would like to install a 347 with more boost and different exhaust.
The Blower Kit was from a 93 Cobra that Powerdyne gave me at cost because of what I was doing with it at time. (A Zillion mods had to be done to get to fit) Mostly because I did not want to have an electric fan in the Phoenix Heat. Did pull my 22' Cobalt with if for a while but brakes were not up to task. I think I was one of very first to install EFI 5.0 S/C in a OBD system.
If anyone is interested in the Lightning Exhaust may consider selling once a larger system is installed.
5.0SuperCharged Apr 12 2005, 10:01pm What do you think about taking the engine from my 32 Roadster and putting it in the ranger?
