View Full Version : 1/4 Mile Times for the 3.0L
Dunkinuts May 22 2005, 08:57pm :burnout: I was just wondering what everyone that has run their truck, what times are you at?:burnout:
I ran my ranger, on a basically wet and cold track. spinning through my 2nd, fish tailing of the line and ran 17.8:ooer: I can't wait to get a dry sticky track this summer. And yes i feathered off the line and still have traction issuses.
uhittheuglytree May 23 2005, 08:49pm Cosmo Racing Intake, 2 1/4" catback with glasspack. Automatic 4x4 3.0. 17.3 @ 77.3mph. It was an 80 degree day and the track is here in southwest pennsylvania.
jasonsmf May 24 2005, 08:13am There used to be a page here on RPS that had everyone's times, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Anyways, my times are in my sig.
Jason
BOSS 3.0 May 24 2005, 12:18pm Please keep it on subject.
Please post your trucks year and configuration, mods and track times.
Example:
'94 Splash, extended cab
PVC CAI, eBay Resistor Chip, Tubonator and dumped glass pack muffler
60 foot time 3.949
1/8 Mile ET 13.224
1/8 Mile MPH 52.91
1/4 Mile ET 19.320
1/4 Mile MPH 69.44
There was a place to do that on RPS, but the thread was overrun with BS claims, doctored time slips and other garbage. We are above that (meaning I will delete any thread that I suspect is bogus or can't be backed up/witnessed). If you have questions regarding someones time or modifications, that post will be deleted once they answer. I will edit posts as needed... It's racing season and I would like to see this work. If it gets ugly (like the timeslips page), I'll have to give this thread the axe.

Close...but not quite!!!!
On the topic of gear ratio's, my fastest runs were made when I had 4.10's and 22" tall tires (225/45-14). This effectively gives me the same gearing as running my stock tires (215/70-14) and 4.82 gears, according to my calculations. The higher numerically the gearing is, the higher the torque is multiplied which leads to faster acceleration. With my "4.82:1" setup, I was finishing the 1/4mile at near 6000 rpm in fourth gear, I was definately not running out of steam, it would keep pulling up untill the rev limiter. My trap speeds were under 85mph, so for my speeds and this sort of run things worked out pretty good. Had I been making more power and running higher speeds, I would have been out of RPM's before the end of the track and would need taller tires or lower numerically gears. This is my experience with gearing.

Dunkinuts Jun 15 2005, 09:20am So looking at the mods, the limited slip appears to have the biggest drop in time. Jasonmf, are all the mods you have in your sig? B/c that is an awesome time for NA with a few mods, i am looking to hit 15s and it looks like all i need is a limited slip and a chip.
jasonsmf Jun 15 2005, 10:12am So looking at the mods, the limited slip appears to have the biggest drop in time. Jasonmf, are all the mods you have in your sig? B/c that is an awesome time for NA with a few mods, i am looking to hit 15s and it looks like all i need is a limited slip and a chip.
I guess I neglected a few mods in my sig:
my poor man's "hot air intake" (K&N cone on the end of a PVC elbow)
IAT Resistor Mod (100K resistor bypassing IAT sensor)
Ignition timing advanced to about 20deg BTDC
At that time I had 4.10's in the rear end, not the current 3.73's
Dynomax Cat-Back (2" diameter, same as stock)
James Duff Traction bars
Thats pretty much it. The night that I made that run, I do believe that the outside air temp was in the upper 40's, and I had iced down the intake manifold really well. Norwalk had preped the track well so I was getting some nice launches. The engine and trans had about 160,000 miles on them back then. I was running with no tailgate, less than 1/8 tank of fuel, and no spare tire. The big things I would say helped me hit the 15's are the extreme gearing from my short tires and 4.10's, traction from the drag radials and limited slip and the largest factor is weight, my truck weighs in at 2960 lbs in full street trim with a half tank of gas, so I'm a bit less than that at the track. I've heard the newer trucks can be easily over 3500 lbs thats going to slow you down quite a bit.
Now that I have the 3.73"s and the drag radials are no longer as sticky as they were new, the best I've run is a 16.1.
Jason
dans92svtranger Jun 15 2005, 08:23pm the biggest gains i saw were with the intake manifold... the fall before the kil kare runs i ran a 17.2. that was with only these mods:
"warm air" intake
225/50R15 tires with 3.45 open rear
no muffler
hurst billet plus shifter
centerforce clutch
keep in mind that the 17.2 runs were some of the first few quarter mile runs i had ever done, but if you look at my times, thats still .7 gain with little experience. ill be going to the track next thurs and hopefully with more exp. (last summer) ill hit 16.0, i dont expect to break into the 15s till i get my expo 8.8 w/powertrax on. but i imagine ill be replacing the engine before that... shes getting very tired.
arangerv6 Jun 22 2005, 01:06am I have a 2002 edge 3.0 5-speed reg cab, with a volant intake system, headers, dual flowmasters,and superchip custom tuning chip
1/8 time is a 10.247 @ 70 mph
1/4 time is 16.185@ 84.3 mph
96XLTCobraR Jun 28 2005, 04:17pm 1/4 mile time 17.1
At the time no mods
I guess its the best time for a stock 3.0 but not sure. Temp was low like 42 degrees. I forget the guy who was there to see it but its the archived posts.

18's seem like a distant dream to me...
One day I'll get my truck to the track, just for fun. I expect it to be well up into the high 20s. I'm working with 4x4, 33's and stock gears here!

I ran a 17.1 at 78 or 79mph as well if i remember correctly in my 99. It was within the first month that I had it and was bone stock. Open diff with 4.10s, 5spd, 4X4 Extended cab. Now with it lifted and 33s, I bet it runs 20's.
It was scanned onto the old list of timeslips but I would have to find the actual slip when I go home from school at some point.
A93RangerXLT Sep 09 2005, 04:12pm Wednesday Night I ran 15.9 @ 84.3 MPH that includes everything in my sig plus 19 lb injectors and a po-boy's maf. Oh Yeah and a 55 shot of nitrous.
Jason
hnmranger Sep 10 2005, 07:20pm ran an 18.2 @ 75 mph last night at the speed way. not bad for being on 33s. hope to crack the 17s soon. everything i have is my signature.
MxEthix Sep 15 2005, 08:04am Last night was the first time I ever did a quarter mile, I only was able to get two practice runs in and never raced because... well I'm new. Here was my best time...
Best Run:
R/T~.711
60'~2.585
330~7.258
1/8~11.096
MPH~64.48
1000~23.390
1/4~17.201
MPH~79.98
Hacked intake with K&N filter, 180* Tstat, hot water bypass, and a Supertrapp exhaust setup. It was about 75* last night.
351crownvic Nov 22 2005, 09:14pm 19.5 on 33's with a fiberglass cap with 3.73's and a manual trans. That is with a .7 light or somthing around there.. Still managed to beat the tempo 3 out of 4 times..
hnmranger Dec 12 2005, 07:26pm well i went to the track again 3 weeks ago and ran a 17.989 in the 1/4 mile. what was diffrent from the previous time i went out there was that i got an intake and bamachip tuner <91 oct setting right now>. i think it will run a hair faster next time i go do to the fact i replaced the rotors <that were worped really bad> and wheel bearings. the rotors that where on there were so worped that if i jacked the truck off the ground and spun the front tires, the passenger side would go maybe a turn. the drivers side would go maybe 2 turns. which = a lot of drag.
96 3.0 Dec 26 2005, 03:34am On a cold night, a long time ago... I ran a 16.7 with old 255/50-17 Nitto 450 extremes out back!! Then, I let about ¼ of the air out of the rear tires and pulled off a 16.49 @ 81mph!!
black99XLT Dec 27 2005, 08:33pm i got my truck to do a 17.8 before any mods. now i have single 40 series FLMSTR, K&N filter in a stock intake with the baffle removed . didnt seem to go faster but went from 15 MPG to 19 ,(with a heavy foot) so it wasnt the desired effect but at least I save money now.
