A G2 or G3? user May 29 2005, 05:04pm g2 g3 i think you mean generation of ranger, the 2.9 just had one plug into it, and now the v8 altenator has two, i dont know how to wire this thing up. Ben L May 29 2005, 06:49pm Guys, could he be trying to install a 3G alternator in a truck wired for a 2G alt? (The 2G/3G does not refer to the generation of Ranger, BTW). Check these links out and see if it helps you out at all (see if they help you identify connectors, etc so you know which type of alternator you have): http://fordmuscle.com/archives/2001/03/paperformance/index.shtml http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/26599/ Ben L May 29 2005, 06:50pm http://www.pa-performance.com/ PA Performance's website. They sell conversion kits (look under Wires and Small Parts Conversion Kits on the main page) if you need to build an alternator harness. pinellas50 May 30 2005, 10:33am g2 g3 i think you mean generation of ranger, the 2.9 just had one plug into it, and now the v8 altenator has two, i dont know how to wire this thing up. No, I am talking about exactly what Ben is. You had a G3 alternator. Now you are putting in a G2. Go to Autozone or an equivelant parts store. Tell them you need the replacement wiring connector for a Mustang 5.0 alternator. They should know what you are talking about. It was common to replace this plug with new alternators on the 5.0's cause the old ones would break apart and tended to cause fires. Anyway, with your new plug you will find 2 B/O wires on it. If you look at the large wire going to your origional alternator you will see it is B/O. Splice the origional large wire to the 2 on the new harness. If memory serves, the 3rd wire is white and splices into the single white wire that went to the origional alternator. The other origional plug you have plugs right into the new to you alternator. Just buy that plug I am talking about and look at it. It should make complete sense. Stick Jun 01 2005, 05:34am Screw all that. I bought a GM alternator with a 1 wire hook up. Works great for a GM part. hahaha pinellas50 Jun 01 2005, 05:42am Screw all that. I bought a GM alternator with a 1 wire hook up. Works great for a GM part. hahaha It's a 3 wire splice and much cheaper than a new alternator. IMO pinellas50 Jun 05 2005, 09:22pm Did you get this figured out yet? user Jun 06 2005, 01:46pm no not yet, im stationed in georgia, and my truck is in ohio, i'll let you know if i figure it out in 2 weeks thats when i'll be goin back. Ben L Jun 06 2005, 02:39pm Just take your time and double-check the type of plugs you'll need on the PA Performance website. It's easy once you have the right plugs and get the wires spliced... Good luck with it! pinellas50 Jun 07 2005, 10:25pm I did the exact same thing with mine and have had no problems with it. Of course, if you go with Stick's idea, you can get into a much better alternator that can easily handle multiple fans, AC, etc. The G2 is marginal. Or you could get a G3 from a Mustang application that should be a direct bolt in. Assuming you are using Mustang brackets. I'm cheap so I spliced in the $5 plug and called it a day. jaybird67k Jun 08 2005, 11:20am On my '88 Ranger it had a single big rectangular plug, so I bought a '89 Mustang Alternator that plugged right in to the original Ranger Harness.
