I've bought three Fords in the last year or so and all of them seem to have an excessive amount of brake dust. What is the general consensus of the guys here as to what brands are the best with the least amount of dust? All the rotors and pads are in good condition no runout or anything. HELP!!:(

I'm using Raybestos PGDs up front, but that's probably not the low-dust grade. Check their website, they offer a half dozen compounds.

i use Performance Friction Carbon Metallics. i don't remember having to much a problem with brake dust, the truck is in a down period, sorta can't drive at the moment. these pads are great to me. when i had them put on the truck stopped faster than anything i had driven.

Brake dust is your friend :) Really, unless you want to spend $100 on brake pads, they're all going to create dust. I've always used Performance Friction Z-rated pads. They squeak sometimes, they make a lot of dust, but they stop on a dime.

I go to Trak Auto and get their Wagner premium series semi-metallic pads. Dusting practically stops, they don't squeak, and they run less than $40 a set.

I go with Carbon metallic at Autozone stop on a dime and are guaranteed for life so when they wear out like they always will you take em back and get a new set. FREE can't beat that when you're on a budget and it leaves more money for mods.

I think maybe NAPA sells the ceramic pads but to the tune of 100.00 a pair. think it's worth it?

I bought my CMPF pads for $25. My friend was working at autozone at the time and hooked me up with a great deal on them.

they are worth it if you have the money and if you are that worried about dust on your wheels

The guaranteed for life is that the pads won't crack of loose the backing for the life of the pads. Not that the pads are guaranteed for wear for the life of the consumer.

Bro I am on like my 8th pair for my Suburban, six pair for my Nova, 3 pair on a Chevelle I just got rid of. Everytime they wear out I take them back to one of many Autozone near me and the give me a brand spankin NEW set. No questions asked. This is my first set on the Ranger and I have no reason to suspect it won't go the same

I had some guarenteed pads from Discount Auto I think it was but they were just guarenteed not to crack before they wore out. I called Autozone though and they said the Carbon Metallic pads are 39.99 front and 9.99 rear for my '91 ranger and come with a lifetime warranty. He said if they wear out bringem back and get new ones. I asked him how they could do that since all pads wear out eventually. He said that most people never come back. So it's true and I take what I said back

Well I made the mistake and bought the Autozone $18 cheapos. They have already glazed over (only 2 months old) and squeal like hell. But the guy did tell me....save the receipt and the box, and when the pads wear out, bring em all back, and get a new set totally free.

I know that as soon as it gets warm out again, I'll be getting Raybestos PG Plus for the fronts. $40 a set, with the same lifetime warranty. They don't squeal at all.

As far as dust goes, I've never had a set of disc brakes that didn't create a lot of dust. I got some 15" dust shields for $10 on ebay for my front wheels, they work awesome. Usually it takes 2 days and my rims are black, it's been a week and they're still gleaming. When I get my 18" rims though, I'll get stainless steel or colormatched dust shields for the front and rear to make it look nice.

As far as the Raybestos Ceramic Quiet Stop Pads.....they produce less dust, squeak much less, are a lot more expensive, and wear out a lot faster because they are softer than other pads....consider that....then consider some dust shields!

Micah,
I live just south of the pines area in Miami. Do you ever go to the Tower shops? We have a pretty good group of guys. Drop me a line sometime. Magichelmt@hotmail.com
