ok... i used to drive a 99 Eclipse GS-T (FWD TURBO!... IMPORT  ) and i love turbos.. but know very little about any domestic/truck, but im learning... neway... i need opinions on turbos on a 4.0 so....
1- Any turbo/twin turbo kits out there or will it have to be custom?
2- How will this affect the dependability of my ford?
3- Is this a popular thing to do with rangers? (doubtfull)
4- If u have a turbo charged ranger, are u happy with it?

superchargers are more common, i don't know of any 4.0's that are turbo charged. most if not all the turbo rangers on RPS have the 2.3L turbo motors from merkurs and thunderbird's swapped in to them.

Hey Kris,
1-Everything has to be custom made no kits out there.
2-Only problem i'm having is that it sucks alot of GAS :E
3-No
4-I'm very happy with my truck, drives great wth alot of power.
Read my sign and you'll have a idea of what you'll need to turbocharged your ranger.
Things that are not listed are:Well i recently overhault the engine so i bore it 0.030'' with stock comp hyperthetic pistons.Still got stock heads O-Ringed for the RCC headgaskets,MSD DIS-4,MSD wires,Magnaflow pro series 3'' straight true muffler.
LATER OMAR!!!.

Due to not enough space under the hood, it is dificult to twin turbo our rangers and also you don't need to, cause a single turbo self will make plenty of power.Well for your engine to run smooth sits basicly in the fine tuning.I use a microthec standalone ecu system insted of the stock ecu cause you don't get a programer to re-program EEC-IV ecu's (correct me if wrong) and chip's don't work for me.When you start thinking of installing a forced induction system on your engine, the first things that you will have to be upgrading are the fuel and ignition system.

Are you kidding, check out the amount of 5.0L Stangs running turbos now-a-days. A turbo works amazing on any motor, regardless to the size.
Not to mention how a turbo works on the huge diesel motors in your big rig trucks. Damn

do a search for my screen name and go to the links in the posts .. you will see a turbo 4.0 b2 (frankenbronco) .... i was happy with it except running 15psi it would blow head gaskets and the centerforce dual friction could not hold the power so i had to go with an aluminum dual disc clutch combo (weighs 13 pounds) i used the stock eec, with the remote optimizer to adjust my a/f ratio .... had the iat sensor in the tubing coming out of the blower cause if the temps coming out were too high the computer would retard the timing 2 to 4 degrees depending on the temps .... if i were to do it over i would go with 6-8 psi, no intercooler (water injection) much more reliable ... no need to o-ring, no special clutches and still it would be about 250 rwhp and about 300 ft tq
ps ... i still have the solid motor mounts, exhaust gas temp gauge, boost gauge and clutch assembly

where can i get a turbo for a 4.0...
I doubt you find any advertised for a 4.0. First, you want figure out how much boost you want to run (your internal components strength should dictate this), and where in the power band you want to see boost. Then, buy a turbo that will suit your needs. Find out how much cfm's the engine you want to boost will flow. This will help you estimate how long it will take a particular turbo to spool up and then show you where in the power band you will see peak boost and how long it takes to get there.
