View Full Version : BBK Question

I have a question regarding the BBK Instacharger "Install Kit". The part number is BBK 1593 if you want to check it out. Apparently, it’s required for the installation of the BBK Instacharger. Now, here’s what I want to know: It says it’s for the 95-97 rangers. Don’t all the rangers up to and including 2000 have the same OHV engine? Also, what are the chances that the kit includes the intake plenum that everyone says has to be fabricated? Because I’m thinking that most superchargers have roughly the same bolt pattern and since I can buy the kit separate from the instacharger (for a measly $219) I can get the intake plenum and then snag a M90 (MP90) or M62 (MP62) off of ebay or something. Now I know a few people out there have the instacharger so they would have needed this kit to install theirs. Could you tell me what is included in the kit and if it can be used with another brand of supercharger? Also, dumb question time: is the instacharger a root type supercharger? Because that’s the kind I'm looking at (I forget the name of the other type, is it a centrifugal? ie: the kind that looks somewhat like a turbocharger?) thanks

Instacharger is an M62 Eaton blower. The installation kit DOES NOT include the intake plenum. Yes the 91-00 rangers all have the OHV 4.0. But they aren't all the same. Hence the change in the installation kits.

ok, i was also looking around and discovered something (new to me, porbably old to everyone else). it seems that the output ports on most of the superchagers would fit the opening of a intake manifold perfectly since the top of the intake manifold is slightly angled like the bottom of the supercharger. now here comes the problem: it would seem as though intake manifolds are only made for V8 engines. the only one i could find was one at summit racing made by edelbrock. does anyone have an idea where i could get an intake manifold for a 4.0L V6 OHV or am I just wasting my time?

*EDIT* would something like this work or does it have to be ford specific? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/gm-3800-v6-3-8-m90-supercharger-manifold-lower-intake_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36474QQitemZ7992 936506QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

**EDIT2** ok, never mind, just took a look at the intake manifold on the ranger and it looks nothing like that one. but now i have a nother question: how was the BBK Instacharger attached to the engine if the mounting bracket wasnt in the install kit?

the instal kit included the belt and the intaek tube alonge with a few small parts. the reason for the seperate kit was differnet years had the air box if differnet spots, and if you had A/C or not would change the belt you needed.

curt

the BBK kit will only work with the BBk unit. I don't even think you can get the install ki9t because you can get the kit anymore.

Unless they changed something, they havent made the kit for a few years. I had one on my 94, well worth the money IMHO. Not sure how seperate blowers are sold but I dont think they come with the "snout" for lack of a better term (hey its late and I haven dealt with this for over a year).

The intake adapter is the key though, the cast one they made was a nice unit and did quite well. If you do find the kit somewhere, trust me, dont screw with it. Don't put different pullies, dont put big injectors on. That just leads to major headaches. The only thing you should do is up the fuel pump size. I went with a 190, that was a bit big but I also had 30lb injectors.

anyway good luck.

and to the rest of you...yes, I still lurk around here :>

yea. but does the intake plenum come seperately from the supercharger or is it welded to the supercharger? because if the supercharger itself is just an m62, perhaps i can get just the intake plenum from BBK (if they have a few lying around) and then buy an m62 or m90 and stick it on there

The intake is separate from the blower, but the blower case was specifically made to mate up to the intake manifold - you can't just get one of their intakes and bolt any m62 / m90 to it.

the intake--- the adapter had 2 parts one for the lower intake and the one that comes bolted to the blower its self.

Mike nice to see you around.

BBK doesn’t carry any parts for the Instacharger and hasn't for some time now. Upon their decision to scrap production of this kit, they took the last of their inventory on hand to compile the last few. After the 1 year warranty period elapsed, they actually sh!t canned the remaining parts. When you contact them now, they will refer you to Magnuson for anything related to this kit, which basically boils down to the head unit itself.

so, theres no way i can get an intake plenum from BBK that i could just bolt on to a regular MP62 and save myself the time, energy, and money of making one myself?

No.
