View Full Version : Breaking things down

The truck is a 2003 SOHC FX4.

Originally, I was going to purchase the EE kit, $4,000. The M62 seems too small for my liking, I want a little more power.

Today, I called a guy I know who builds turbos, the price was way more than I was anticipating, that went out the window. He claimed he could potentially get 400RWHP, that would be nice.

Brian Mckelvey got back to me and explained how much he had invested into his system, for around $1k, 290RWHP would be nice (along with some mild head work). Im just a little sceptical about running a supercharger designed to mate to a larger engine than the 4.0.

The I read some more about the Supercoup M90, now I cant seem to make heads or tails with the blower. Good or bad? I know Doug doesnt recommend them, and Doug knows his stuff. Although there seems to be quite a few people who successfully run these without problems.

My biggest concern is running the M112 and its reccomended engine size of 4.8-6.0L.

M112 supercharger
~39lb injectors
heavier intake spring (what is stock, how heavy should I go?)
custom intake manifold and intake.
A LOT of blood, sweat, and tears.

I know a guy who has all the stuff that will be needed for fabricating the intake manifold and intake (CNC, mandrel bender, etc).

Is there a specific injector I should look into (Denso, Bosch, etc) How much should be spent for decent injectors? Larger fuel pump, perhaps?

What else should be done with the fuel system besides the injectors?

I plan on mounting a fuel pressure gauge and boost gauge somewhere in the ****pit. I dont want an a pillar, I dont want people to know the engine has been worked. Ill figure this out later.

So far I have intake, SCT via Doug, and a Gibson side swept catback should be here tomorrow. 265/75/16 Toyo ATs on stock rims, I plan on keeping it in this trim.

What all would be needed from a M112 kit from the lightning? Just the SC itself of other misc. parts as well?

If there is anything I am missing, please inform me.

Thanks,
Spencer

For injectors I used Siemens Deka 30#er's from a guy named Alan Kennedy, I think Gerry has his contact info and I got 6 for ~230 shipped. You are going to need to upgrade to a 155lph or higher in-tank pump.
I mounted my boost guage in the driver's side ac vent and it was a pretty trick install. Buy a 2 1/16" guage and it fits like a dream. As for the fuel pressure guage you are going to have to step up to an electrical guage to keep the fuel in the engine bay otherwise you will have to run a fuel line into the cab which isn't very safe.
The hardest part, IIRC is the intake manifold spacer/adapter but I think that Brian has exact specs for fab'ing it up. You probably won't be using your CAI and an intake manifold will not be needed because the supercharger replaces the upper manifold.
As for the intake springs, I as well as many other people have gotten by just fine with 9# and up on stock springs.

Just a word of advice, get all of your ducks in a row as far as exhaust work, fuel system, and exactly how much boost you want to run and THEN get it tuned (I know from experience:)) Change ONE thing and your tune is off.
Hope it goes well, I wish I still had my truck:(

Thanks for the input. The exhaust is how it will stay, I just installed the Gibson catback this evening. Im looking to buy a legit intake, Mac will most likey fill the spot, right now its just an airbox delete, still retaining the stock boot. The SCT programmer I have now will become obsolete, since the tunes now will not hold when supercharged.

Do you have input/pros and cons for each supercharger?

If you dont mind, could you tell me a little more about your personal Ranger? I like the 13s claimed under your avatar.

Could I get rid of that last cat? Would there be power gained? Or would it just be louder? Im more for performance and functionality than fashion. Ill search around for the intake manifold specs.

Thanks again,
Spencer

Paxton SN-92 6#, intercooled, 30# injectors, efan, JBA headers, catless, 3" side exit, stick, 3.55 rear, 50 shot dry.
As for the cats, superchargers do not like back pressure and respond to freeing up exhaust pressure so yes, it made a big difference for me. I went from chirping second to shredding second.
Like I said, I am not sure with a roots blower, but I don't think you will be using your stock or aftermarket CAI, but I could be wrong.
As for you programmer, jst send it back to Doug and have him put another une on it.
