In the winter, since I live in washington, will I have to put on my old intake so I have a preheater. Because when I made my custom intake I took off the whole preheater assembly. Is it that important? I dont wanna have to becasue man I love that intake, I dropped .2-.4 in the 1/4 mile with it just on...

I may be missing something, but the point of an intake is to deliver clean air to the engine, and the colder the better. Since cold air is more dense than warm air, it can carry more oxygen and therefore produce more HP.

I guess the air heater is there for much colder climates. If stick isn't having any probs in NY I doubt you will in WA. I don't know much about cars equipped with engine mods for extream cold weather (I live in the south). I would guess that they would want the intake temp to be warmed when the temperatures are below freezing. Heating the air would cause a leaner mixture which would save gas milage. Also it the air was extreemly cold it could caause the engine to create a rich mixture which could lead to detonation. I don't think it would hurt to leave the intake on. You might have some problems if you have a very cold start. If you do have probs you could try to put the air heater back on the custom intake.

Yeah, I don't know much about extreme cold weather, but I would think that Washington isn't a hell of colder than here... if at all. Tho I could be totally wrong.

I don't have the cold weather package in mine, that might explain the sh!tty gas mileage I get in the winter, or it could be the 500+ lbs. in the back to keep me on the road. Either way, I'd try it when it starts getting cold and see how it goes.

I wonder if there would be a way to pull a reverse IAT mod to make the engine think the air is warmer....maybe a slight MPG help in cold winters?

You mean instead of adding resistance, bypass the IAT? I guess this could be done by disconnecting the leads to the IAT and connect them to a small resistor. Say < 1k? Does this sound right? I believe that would work. I'd have to say it's only a guess at the resistance though.

Yeah pretty much. Would have to get a ohm meter and measure the resistance and see what it is running at in a normal warm temp and find that typ resistor and put it in palce of the sensor. I have also been wanting to try that dial (can't rember the actual name of it) that will change resistance, and see how that works.

yep that's it. I wouldn't mind playing around with one and seeing what i could do. I think i'll try radio shack and see if they have a cheap one.

Hey Roadrunner, if you're gonna do it I would get a 50k and a 100k potentiometer and try that. The lower resistance pots have a smoother linearity from 0 to max. If you get something like 1M, the jump from 0 ohms to 100k ohms will be almost imediate.

I had talked to someone and they said there was a product where you could place resistance by typing in the # digitaly. I don't know if this type of potentiometer exisits, but it would be cool if it did. I am going to have to find it somewhere on the net if it does b/c i doubt radio shack will have it. I am going to try the chme department at school and see if they have any catalogs for lab equipment.

I've never heard of that. Would probably be too delicate to put in your truck and also very expensive if there is something like that out there.

That is what i was thinking, but I still would like to know if it exists. I bet it will have aa outrageous price
