I wondering for those who run E85, what kind of gas mileage are you getting? Also state is you have an auto or 5 speed and 4x4 or 4x2. What do you usually pay for E85? Thanks.

View Full Version : Who runs E85 here? gtsguy Oct 14 2005, 11:00pm I wondering for those who run E85, what kind of gas mileage are you getting? The E85 is really ment for a higher compression engine (or supercharged), but then it wouldn't run on gasoline too well. Stretch203 Oct 15 2005, 02:22am I have a 2000 4x2 ffv. I live in the S.F. Bay Area, so there are no stations here. I travel frequently (6-8 times) per year to San Diego and relatives there. The price is rediculous, usually only 5 cents cheaper then Regular. It could be contributed that it is the only station west of Utah to offer E85. So it is all imported to CA. We have plenty of sugar beats and there is a lot of discussion about local production. Still nothing final. Milage is about 10% lower. Do not notice any significant higher temps on the engine as I had expected. Could be contributed to JBA Headers. Will smog on E85 in May since I'm due by July, and will be down there for a birthday. David Parrett Oct 17 2005, 11:17am There are a handful of stations in Colorado that carry E85, including a Conoco very close to my house. Lately, E85 has been running at $2.39 vs. $2.79 for 85 octance unleaded. With the difference in economy, the cost is a wash but it is better for the environment. Zane Oct 17 2005, 12:26pm This is a little off the subject, but if you have a chip which requires your truck to run on "Premium" gas, could you still run E85??? Or does the chip need to be removed??? Just curious. jmratje Oct 18 2005, 10:28am Arizona right now only has two stations that offer E85, both in Tucson. I've used E85 for about four or five months. My gas mileage went from about 17-18 in city to about 13-14 with E85. The cost right now is about $2.38-$2.55 depending on which station. With the drop in mileage and 87 octane gas coming back down in price, it was cheaper to mile to switch back to gas. E85 did solve the mild pinging that I've always had in the summer with the 3.0L. felgar_1 Oct 26 2005, 09:29am WELL I have run it and my 99' is a ffv truck. Milage went from 21mpg to 14mpg. But the ffv truck adjusts the injectors and stuff for the e85. So a none ffv truck will do alittle better on mpg though you might run alittle lean. Engine temp will be cooler not hotter. The price here is about .15 cents cheaper then gas. THE ONLY REASON for that is the oil companys don't want you to buy it. It should only run about $1.75 to $1.90 a gallon for it. Their is no reason for us to be under the thumb of the oil companys Brizil runs on 90% self made alcohol and 10% foreign oil nandated be the goverment. Not like our oil company run goverment 450rwhp Jan 02 2008, 12:56am we only use to have one E-85 station in town so i would only use it to pass emissions. but i have been reading in the forums here for a while. this is what i do in my truck..... 3/4 tank E-85, 1/4 tank of midgrade. i have a 15 gallon tank. 1992 2.3L with NO modifactions to the motor. i get about 360 miles to the tank. aprrox. 24 miles to the gallon. the gas in the area is all mixed with up to 10% ethanol to begin with. truck runs smoother with the E-85. i have had no problems. i have been running like this now for about 3 months. just wanted to let everybody know for reference/my experience |
