Looks like I'll be getting one of those Kenwood MP3 head units soon. Was looking on Crutchfield's web site and apparently if you have the premium sound system, there's an external amplifier "at the rear of the vehicle". Where the hell is it located? Also, is it worth their $50 adapter to use the factory amp or should I bypass it with the free (if I buy the stereo from them, that is) wiring harness?

Try behind the passenger seat if you have a regular cab.

I dont know what year you have but they can be behing the passanger kick pannel. Sometimes if you hook up the remothe turnon from the kenwood to the amp turn on wire in the new harness you will get the factory amp will still work.
...that everyone knows what I have  It's a '94 Supercab, and I think Bassn nailed it. That's why I couldn't figure out what Crutchfield was talking about.
Now, are there any advantages (I presume not) to continuing to use the factory amp, or should I use the one in the head unit? (It'll be a temp setup either way.)

Just bypass the amp,it`ll sound alot better than continuing to use the stcok amp. And YES,you do need the bypass harness to do it right.
