I've got an AOD from a '91 model Stang.

Well, first you need to make a decision on whether you want a manual or automatic tranny. If manual, you'll need to figure out your slave/master cylinder/ throw out bearing arrangement ahead of time, as well as figure out the shifter handle location, as that can vary with the different five speeds availeable.
If you want to run an automatic, your only real choice is between an AOD, or an AOD-E. I may catch flack about that statement, but any other Ford automatic will be much larger, heavier, and get way worse gas mileage.
If you go with the AOD, you will need to set up a TV cable, stock, such as a Mustang cable, or aftermarket such as the Lokar unit.
Running the AOD without the TV cable adjusted properly will ruin the tranny extremely quick.
If you go with the AOD-E, you will have a much better transmission, but it is controlled completely electronically. You will have to run either a 94-95 computer to conltrol it, or an aftermarket computer such as the Bauman.
Good luck - Karl

A c4 is half the size of a AOD or AODE. But you will not have the OD option with a C4. If you do pick one of the 4 speed autos I would pick a AOD. I am using a C4 with a reverse manual valve body, continental 3000-3200 stall.:afro:

I'm also gonna run a C4 with mine. As of right now I have a stock torque converter with mine, which should be interesting with a .512" lift cam:E. I got a deal with my tranny so thats why i'm keeping the stock converter for a while. Also, I don't have to worry about wiring in the tranny.

Hey Prostreet Rngr, got any pics of your Ranger?

I'll go ahead and tell you that it will SUCK. I kept my stock converter for a while with a .499/.510 lift cam and it didn't like staying still at lights. :)

I got .542" lift on my new cam, it really not THAT bad, but i got to adjust the idle, and i got a 5 speed, sounds sweet as hell though.

Back in '97 we bought a 396 big block for my Impala and it came with a Comp Cams 305 Magnum cam, which has .575" lift. We ran it with the stock converter in the Impala, and it made a nice scene at the stop lights too:)

I'l eventually get a stall converter, but i'm gonna wait until I get more money.
