Hey guys,

I have a 03 mountianeer 4.6L w/5 speed auto tranny.
I always do my own work and have never changed the fluid on one of these "sealed for life" trannies.

Ok.. so I drop the pan, change the filter, and drain 1/2 the convertor (if possible on this model). How do I refill the fluid w/o a dipstick tube???? And how do I know what's "full"??

Easy........ at a shop properly prepared for it. In the bottom of the pan there is a drain plug, inside that drainplug is another plug, that is the fill plug. You drop the pan, replace the filter. Fill the pan up as high as possible and reinstall, get a suction pump gun full of fluid ready, now install a nipple in the inner plug, pump fluid in with the vehicle running (If I remember right I fill the pan and it takes another 3 quarts) pump the fluid in and when it is full and you take the gun off it will start to drain back out. reinstall the inner plug and you are cool. You have to be fast though the fluid has to be under 90*F to be at the proper level.

Also make sure you use the new Motorcraft Mercon V in the red bottles, not the old stuff in the black bottles.
