I just picked up an 05 and am going hunting on Saturday. I've never had to thing about this before as I had a pickup but are there any problems with putting a deer on the roof rack? I'm concerned with the blood getting on the paint.
I haven't as yet gotten the tray that hooks to the trailer hitch.
Thanks.

back when i had a jeep, i had to put a deer across the hood and got some blood on the paint. just wash it off as soon as you are done, and it shouldnt be any problem.

put a few coats of wax on the paint and wash the blood off asap, it's a pita to wash off once its been dry for a day or so...but get one of those racks for the hitch if you can, much easier as far as actually loading the deer on, plus it's handy for carrying coolers and such too.

I had considered that but hunting season is only a few weeks a year and I need to be able to carry PEOPLE the rest of the time.

hell my dad used to carry dead deer in the back of his Dodge Omni. As long as you use some thick plastic drop cloths you could put it in the back, I would be concerned about it sliding around on the roof rack unless it was tied down real good.

Yea the blood shouldnt hurt the paint as long as you dont leave it on there for days on end. LOL. I had a deer on the hod of my old ramcharger and there was blood all over the paint. But it didnt hurt it. Washes right off

Be sure to cover the deer with a bag. You'll make some 'anti-hunters' spawn if you ride around with a deer on the roof.

I know in Maine the deer has to be visible for transport. Just a thought. If you're going to put it inside, hang the head out the back window or if you're going to cover it up on the roof, leave some of it visible. I'd suck getting in trouble with game wardens.
