Hey guys,

Last night I just happended to notice my brake lights aren't working. All three of them.
I checked all the fuses and that's not it, I pulled the bulbs and that's not it.

I unclipped the harness on the brake peddel and check voltage, 12 volts. I checked continuity on the switch when peddel is depressed, checked OK.

Dang now it looks like a wiring fault. Are there any common issues to look for?

Thanks
Malcolm

PS. 94 4x4 Ext. Cab 4.0 stick (if it makes any difference).

first thing to check is the BOO switch that is connected to the brake pedal. it is a rectangular part w/ a spring in it. that would be something to check since that is probably the cause (it could just be that the metal clip on the end of it isnt making good contact and needs to either be bent slightly as a temporary fix or just have the unit replaced. i dont know how much the BOO switch costs since i just rebent the tabs on mine slightly so it was making contact again

Ohh thanks but I did already check it. I was trying to explain in my first post but didn't realize it was called a BOO switch. I put a meter on it and pressed the pedel. Showed connectivity.

I think the switch is alright. I will short the wires on the harnes tonight to make sure.

Thanks
Malcolm

ya, i think the switch still can get voltage, but it might not be making a connection on the brake pedal itself. (the slightly curved rectangular part might not be making a good enough connection

If you've verified that the BOO switch is working correctly, check your turn signal and hazard flasher. I think it's routed through there after it goes from the BOO switch to cut out the brake light to allow the turn signals to operate. I wouldn't think that would affect the 3rd brake light, but who knows. I thought they started putting the high center brake light on 95's, did you add yours?

nope, high mount 3rd brake lights were standard on the 93+ rangers

Thanks for everyone's help I got it fixed. It was the BOO switch after all. It was making real slight contact which is why my test meter showed a connection.
I bent the tabs that press on the cam on the brake pedel and that fixed it till I can get a new switch tomorrow.

My third brake light was factory. Also my brake lines don't go through the harzard wiring etc. I have seperate amber turn signals (the way it should be). This is on a 94.

Thanks again
Malcolm
