I just recently pulled off the stock 225/70/14s for some 225/75/15s... I don't get nearly the same takeoff as I used to. I checked the code on my door which reads 86 which is the standard 3.73 What would I gain out of the 4.10? And also can I add limited slip and exactly what will it do for me? Thanks, Marc

I'm not a gear expert, but I know if you got those 4.10's you'd be in for one heck of a ride. Your MPG might suffer a little, but in my oppenion...the new gears would be worth it.

4.10's let the engine turn about 10% faster at the same road speed than 3.73's. You need to measure the diameter of your new tires, and divide it by the diameter of your old tires. If there's 10% difference, you will run the same rpm you did before. Anything less than 10%, and it will run a little more rpm at the same road speed. Limited slip will help you on slick roads, but if you aren't turning the tires too easily now, limited slip won't help you any on launch.

My '01 with 245/75/16's and 4.10's turns almost exactly the same rpm at any given speed as my 99 did with 235/75/15's and 3.73's.

4.10's= Faster take off, But will lower your Maximum speed. YOu wont be able to go as fast as you could with the 3.73's or 3.45's.
I say stick with your 3.73's unless you plan on gettin bigger tires (31's). A l/s should help you hit corners better, give you more tractin esp. in the rain!, and will leave 2 marks on the floor when u go vroom vrooooooom

To return to the same RPM/MPH ratio you had with the stock tires would require 4.00 (OK, 3.99844) gears. The 4.10's would be turning the engine slightly faster at a given speed with the new tires, versus the old tire/gear combo. Personally I'm not sure that small of an upgrade would be worth it (in other words, I don't think I would go to the trouble). Now if you were ALSO gonna pop in a limited slip, it might be worthwhile to do the gear change as well (and sell the old combo on eBay for cheap).

With the way these things are geared, 4.10's won't lower your top end. They will usually go as fast or faster in 4th than they will in 5th anyway. If you don't have a speed limiter, it may even go faster with 4.10's since you are developing more hp at the higher rpm you would be turning. If mine could hit the 6000 rpm redline in 5th, it would be going 168 mph. With 4.10's it's running 2500 at 70 mph. Even with the OD turned off which locks it out of 5th, it would still max out at around 126 in 4th.

I have 4.10s on my 3.0 with 235 60 15s. I think its a great gear even for highway driving...my speed limiter kicks in around 85-90 now but it gets there a lot faster! The vss mod will take care of the limiter tho. My limited slip is just awesome...i dont know how i ever lived without it (i used to have an open rear which made me go ------------)
