So you want 2000 ranger taillights on your 93-99 ranger, but you hate the fact that you need to go to a two-bulb setup to use them?

Well you don’t have to. There is a spot for the third bulb on the 2000 tails; you just have to put a hole in the spot for the socket. So lets start…

Here is a side by side of my 93(right) tails compared to one from a 2000 Ranger.

Heres a comparison of the backside of the tails (2000 on the left). Notice that the 2000 tail does not have a hole in the top…this is where we come in.

All you need is…

A dremel tool
Compressed air

First, you need to make a round hole, one inch in diameter, in area where the third socket is going. Try to get it as centered as possible.

Next you need to cut out for the notches. Once done it should look similar to this. It does not need to be perfect, but try to make it as close as possible.

Once you are done and your socket fits tight, take your compressed air and blow out any debree that got in from cutting the plastic.

It is very important that you look to see which side you need to make the notch longer on, so that when you twist the socket in to secure it, it turns the right way in the housing.

Do the notches little by little until it fits securely.

Fits like a glove!

You do not need to worry about moisture getting in the lenses, the ford sockets have a gasket around them. if your sockets dont have the rubber gaskets, go get some!
