while still pondering building a Duratec 2.3T i decided to see what kinds of progress has been made on the import/focus front of our engines.. turns out there is a company called hiboost that has made nearly 500 hp on a stock head and valve train motor... which is quite enticing to hear. just google 2.3 duratec turbo and there will be plenty of reluslts for you to check out, or www.hiboost.com

The state of the duratec is good :8)

Well what do you think the 2.3 Duratech engine is?

It's definatly got potential and you'd want to scrap the stock "powdered metal" con rods and high compression cast pistons when considering a boosted 2.3l duratec. Not sure how well the plastic intake manifold would hold up though.

There's still the option of somehow seeing if you can retrofit parts from the Mazdaspeed 6 and upcoming Mazdaspeed 3 (most likely a 2.0L Turbo) applictions. If nothing else, you should be able to use a set of rods and pistons from a MS6 to build a Dtec 2.3T for your truck. The intakes, I believe, are backwards.

Of course, if you want parts to fit a rear drive application, I'm sure a Mazdaspeed version of the MX5 can't be too far off in the future.

ARRR!!! you beat me to it. I wonder what the turbo duratech platforms will bring to the turbo ranger table in a couple years :D

isn't there a trubo'd mazda speed maita? is that ha duratec based motor? if anyone rembers my post for ma way back i have a whole parts list and ideas but on thing came down on it in the end. thath engine bay is packed. but i think a superchager configural style would fit on the motor by the battery side there. that might work but there are some talented guys here and i bet someone will make it work. later and heres that link to the duratec parts stuff i had found a while back.

marcy motorsport offers a whole line of internals for the Duratec, forged beams and rods from 9:1 to 12 : 1 I think

There is, but it's an entirely different engine. There was a Mazdaspeed option for, I believe, the '03 and '04 model years, but this was still in the old MX3 platform with the old 1.8L engine, absolutely nothing in common with the new MX5 or Dtec at all.

well do the new madza mx5 maitas have a duratec motor in them etheir 2.0 or 2.3? i have no clue just asking cause if so it'll just be a little bit till mazda turbos that thing and we'd have some parts there for us like intake man, turbo man, pistons, ect. later

The Miatia's come with the 2.0L, apparently the the 2.0L head out flows the 2.3L head (from what I've heard). As for turbo applications, like I said, I'm 99.9% sure that the soon to be released Mazdaspeed 3 will have a turbo version of the 2.3L Dtec, which means that it'll just be an intake and exhaust away from a Mazdaspeed MX5. As for the 2.3L it's already turbo'd in the Mazdaspeed 6. Of course, once again, that will probably only be good for the turbo itself and engine internals. I'm not sure about the exhaust manifold plumbing, it may be workable, but the intake definitely won't work, no biggie, just use the one that's on your truck already.

Sorry for brining up an OLD post, but from what I'm reading, swapping in a Mazdaspeed BP-4W Turbo engine isn't possible, or it is with some modifications?

well, it would require alot of extensive custom work (intakes, header etcetera)
